For fun - what were your biggest misconceptions (no pun intended) about pregnancy?
Before you started doing research and learning things from others who were getting PG, what were some things you thought happened that turned out to be totally not true?
I have 2 - I thought you would know you were PG by waking up the morning after conception with morning sickness... and I thought all you had to do was have the baby and in a few days you'd 'deflate' back to your normal size!
Clearly I figured this out a long time ago but it still makes me laugh!

Just didn't realize how complicated ovulation was and also the small window of time in which you could get pregnant

Mine too. How do so many people become pregnant (right away!) with such a small window?

I think some people its just luck. I mean - think of the people who "accidentally" get pregnant - that always baffles me - the chances that in the small window of time they happened to have sex and get pregnant wihtout thinking about it always gets me....

Just really baffles the mind that it happens by accident in those 5 or so days

I agree with everyone!
I basically thought that once we stopped using protection, we'd time it and get pregnant the first month.
I never knew a thing about CM before TTC.
I never realized how common infertility was!

All of this!!! DH didn't know any of this too...he thought I would get PG right away...the window for it to happen is just so small...

I totally agree with everyones comments
It drives me nuts to the point I am now sick of hearing who is preggo and how they got preggo on the first month. Sorry alittle bitter because of this month.

Re: For fun - what were your biggest misconceptions (no pun intended) about pregnancy?
The whole "accident" concept baffles me too!!
I also never really believed that the BCP could really mess you up once you decided to get off...I guess I was naive!
I also didn't know that miscarriages were as common as they are. Same with infertility...I always thought I was in the clear since I never had any problems.
Unfortunately, I didn't learn anything positive!!!!

that it would be such an emotional rollercoaster, and how common early pregnancy losses are. I never thought I'd still be trying to get pregnant after 2 years

I never knew how common miscarriages were...
And how much of it is about timing.

From this board I have learned how fragile being pregnant really is. It really scares me, and my heart breaks for all the women who have had to endure a loss.

Re: For fun - what were your biggest misconceptions (no pun intended) about pregnancy?
All of the above plus- once I figured out my ovulation cycle, and actually had time alone with my DH, I got pregnant with my DD. It took about 8 months but that was a huge learning curve.
I figured I would get pregnant the first month since I learned so much with my first pregnancy on HOW to get pregnant. Well, I guess those two years really did drop my fertility.
