SO I am ...
Going to quit my job.  Im terrified. I was never in LOVE with it anyway. And I was given a free trip to hawaii and my job will not let me go since I don't have enough vacation time (we get on day per pay period and i've used some already I asked to go and not get paid and that was a no go I used 2 days when my DH was in the hospital and 2 days cause I had the flu with 100.2 fever and I went to florida for a couple of days)
Im scared to give my notice cause my manager is a beast!  I don't know what to say

I usually pick a "true" reason (which usually means about something about me and not them) and run with it. They usually don't know it's really them! I never close my doors.

I would be 100% honest.
"I've been offered a free trip to Hawaii and that's a rare thing. I don't have enough time saved up to take that trip and I don't want to miss the opportunity. So the only option that I see is to let this job go, give you the chance to find someone else and look for new employment when I return."
Who knows - maybe they will give you the time!

Yeah I agree...you don't even need to say "family." Just say it's personal. You have no responsibility to tell them why you're leaving. It's really none of their business.

Who knows - maybe they will give you the time!
I wouldn't mention the trip to Hawaii, you might need this employer as a reference and I wouldn't want this manager mentioning that. Some may think, trip to Hawaii, what if she has a wedding in Fla, will she quit for that too, etc?
Just go with personal reasons, no one can question that.

Do you have another job lined up? Are you only quitting, so you can go on the trip to Hawaii? Do you think it will be easy for you to find another job?
Personally...I wouldn't quit until I had another job...the fear of not finding something when I came back, would probably ruin the vacation for me....free or not!

you're quitting because you have a free vacation and you have no vacation time left and your job won't give you off?
can you ask to take the time unpaid?
Can you afford to not have a job when you return?
Nice to have a free vacation, but personally I would never do that. I couldn't be without my job.
I'm thinking there is way more than this.

Just say you've decides it is time for you to move on.
If you don't have a job, and htey ask where you are going, say you are taking some time to explore some new opportunites. Just be firm with your end date.
How'd you get a free trip?

I was never really happy at this job. BUT it was a job. The people I work with are all miserable. nice people, but hate my boss and the job. It just brings everyone down.
I was given the free trip. I asked if I could take it unpaid. That was a no. I asked to have time advance that was a no.
My Niece is sick and was given a wish from the make a wish foundation. Her wish was to have her family go to hawaii and learn to surf.
I do not have another job lined up, some offers though.
I already asked for the time and was told no so my manager knew when I was going.
I was honest. I told her my family is important to me and I was sorry but I needed to submit my resignation. She said she was upset will see if she can advance me some time if not when I get back from Hawaii I should re apply because I can definitely be re hired.

that changes everything..I knew there was more to this story. I wouldn't work with people that couldn't see clear about this.
