c section doubts& fears/ madonna complaint
i am scheudled for a csection in a few weeks. I expect to go into labor before then but of course dont really know when. Both babies are head down and my dr said i dont need to have one if i dont want to. I am really un sure about what to do. All along i wanted a c section. I thought it was a better choice since there are two of them and i didnt want to go through labor twice and my research showed its safer for the babies and there was still a good chance i would start laboring and then still need a c section. having both was not remotly appealing to me. the closer i get to haiving these babies the less confident i am in my decision. the pluses in my mind are the longer stay in the hosiipital, knowing what to expect, knowing i wont have to have both labor and surgury, im more comfortable knowing the surgury wont be an emergency situation and my dr said a c section on a woman who hasnt just been pushing is much better then on one who has and i like how short the process is vs labor beign unpredictable. also my firneds who have had c sections loved them (only one was scheduled- the rest were emergency). the ones who went vaginally 3 had a great experience and the rest didnt. but everyone is differnt. im also scared of tearing. i havent taken a birth class sicne i was plannign om a c section and i havent been dogin my kegels sicne again i was plannign on a c section. im worried baout carign for 2 babies after surgury and havign a scar and of course the surgury itself. the vaginal birth has the plus of a shorter recovery time, no surgury and no scar.
yesterday i was at madonna and even though the perinatoloigt thinks a c section a a very good choice the nurses were attackign me and it made me very uncomfortable then they started saying stupid thigns like wont it be nicer for your husband to watch a birth instead of a surgury. i was like im not puttiogn on a show for anyone. and then i was mad. like i didnt ask their opinion and it was really wrong of them to force their thoguhts upon me. the best argument they had was that babies have always come vaginally and there fore that is how they should be born. there were 3 nurses ganging jup on me and a few motnths ago when i was very confident that this was the nest choiuce i wouldnt have cared but now since i am questioning it i was upset. but since they came across as such idiots to me i didnt pout much stoock in what they were saying. but like i said i was alredy questioning this. i then spoke to a tech there who had one of each who i really had liked and actually asked her opinion and she said the c seciton was much better for her then the vaginally delivery.any thoght s for me based on your previous experiernce?
thanks. im just freakgin out a little knowing i c an have 2 babies any day now and im a bit overwhelmed.

Re: c section doubts& fears/ madonna complaint
Well, honestly - you have to do what YOU and only YOU feel comfortable with.
I had to have a c-section due to the postioning - one was transverse (laying across) and one was breech.
However I also had a natural birth prior to them.
If I had to choose and if both babies had accomodated me by being head down - I would have gone natural.
For me - the recovery of the c-section was horrible - I was in so much pain for days - it was excruciating at times. Now, I am not trying to scare you - I am only speaking of my experience.
Alot of people have nothing but great experiences with c-sections - for me, I don't know why, but I couldn't understand why anybody would willingly go that route.
But like I said in the beginning - you have to do what makes you comfortable.
I had a scheduled date as well, but went into labor anyway. I laborered all night (in the hospital) until the doctor came in the morning to do my c-section.

Re: c section doubts& fears/ madonna complaint
i agree you have to do what YOU think is best.
i thought i would attempt to go vaginally, but as those last few days were approaching, i was in such terrible pain, that i cried just to walk to the bathroom. so i went to the doctor and we all decided to "have" the babies the next day. i was a few days shy of 38 weeks. we decided at that point to go the c-section route, because my ds was sideways and giant and i was fearful of delivering both ways, just in case he didn't turn.
luckily, i had a pretty smooth recovery after my csection. i wasn't in much pain and only had to take otc meds, nothing strong. i was able to bf both of them too. one big thing for me, was that my dh was an amazing support and always got up to hand me the babies to nurse, even though they were right next to me in the cosleeper and he did ALL the diaper changes. all that, plus bfing constantly really allowed me to stay off my feet and rest. i think that was a key to my recovery.
it's such a hard decision and both options are frightening for different reasons, so you really just have to talk to your doctor and do what your heart says.
as for the nurses at madonna, i think they were wayyyyyyyy out of line and you should tell the doctor or director or whomever is in charge. they should not be making anyone feel bad like that and they were not giving their unbiased medical opinion, they were just talking too casually and being really insensitive. shame on them. sorry that happened.
you will get through the delivery, no matter what way you decide to go!!!

Re: c section doubts& fears/ madonna complaint
I elected for a C-Section the SECOND I found out I was having twins. I was not the least bit interested in trying for a vaginal birth. My OB had no problem with it whatsoever. I didn't go into labor, I just went to the hospital on my scheduled day and everything went great.
I definitely had discomfort/pain afterwards for a good 10 days. I kept the percocet close by and I was good to go!!! I didn't breastfeed either and wasn't interested in trying.
So I guess my advice to you in follow your instincts. Don't worry about the "scar" they are basically non-existent these days unless you wear thong bikinis to the beach and if you do...god bless you girl.
After my c-section I was at NSUH Plainview for 4 days and I did alot of recovering then. I had the nurses take the babies to the nursery to give myself time to truly rest since once they sent me home, I knew that would be over.
As for Madonna, I went there quite a bit myself at the end of my pregnancy. What do you care about what those nurses think. You think your husband really cares? All he will want at that minute is to see his beautiful babies and wife all healthy and happy!!!

Re: c section doubts& fears/ madonna complaint
Do what is best for YOU!! Everyone thinks they are an expert, but in the end, it's YOUR body. I am torn as well, my obs are c-section happy, and I would like to go natural just for th recovery, but as I get further along, and more uncomfortable, that will probably change!
Just curious, which Madonna is it, I go to Babylon?

Re: c section doubts& fears/ madonna complaint
Thanks everyone. i think at this point i may try for a vaginal delivery assuming the babies both stay vertex. i was so sure i wanted a csection for the past 9 months but i seem to be less confident the closer i get.
the madonna i go to is mineola. but most of the nurses go to both offices. one of them was like " i just dont understand why ANYONE would elect surgury"i told her she didnt have to understad it.. in thinking about it later, its werid. like there is so much controversery over choosing a c section but society is more ok with boob jobs and nose jobs and tummy tucks. that is "uncessary surgury". i dont get why one is "OK" and the other isnt. c sections are often safer for babies than a vaginal delivery so i cant imagine that is the rational.....
i dont really put much weight in what the nurses said but i was surprised they said it. i ddint ask their opinons and they said such stupid things. my husband does not care for him which way i deliver and honestly even if he did its not his decision. but he is way supportative and just wants these boys to be healthy however they enter the world.
i can deliver any time really from wed june 4 which is when i stop taking my medicine to stop contractions ( i was hosipitalized last month due to contractions) to june 23 which if it no longer is my c section date becomes my induction date.
im just a little concerned that pushing 2 babies out is worse than 1 surgury. but everyone is different and i have had an easy pregnancy maybe my delivery would be "easy" too... i can hope....
my main reason for changing my mind is that i am concened about caring for 2 babies after surgury and i want to feel as well as possible which is more lkely without surgury. we will see. thanks for responding.

Re: c section doubts& fears/ madonna complaint
First
Your feelings are 100% understandable. And boo-hiss to those nurses I think they need a refresher course in bedside manners.
Well, here's my story for what it's worth. From day one I hoped, really hoped I could go vaginally. I've been lucky enough to never had to have surgery for anything... I got two stiches in a finger once... that's it so the thought of being cut... um, no thanks if I can avoid it. Even when I went in for my retreival I practically had my eyes closed as I walked into the OR... I didn't want to see the equipment. The ;less I knew, the better or I'd be really nervous. When I was referred to my high-risk OB that was the first question out of my mouth. He said, "Sure you can, we do it all of the time. Many OB's son't even want to try a vaginal birth with twins and will schedule your c-section at your first appt." That I did not want. If, later on, the circumstances dictated a c-section then ok, but I could, personally, never understand scheduling one at 7.5 weeks. Turns out he was right. That practice delivers a lot of twins vaginally.
For most of my pg, both DC's were head down. Then one flipped and one stayed head down, then the other flipped and the other stayed head down around week 36... who knew there was still room A few days later they were both head down and stayed that way, I delivered at week 38. I was very lucky. I was induced and pushed for a very short amount of time. They were born 3 minutes apart. I was VERY lucky. I wasn't ready to run a marathon but I remember feeling better than I thought I would. The nurses had me up in a short amount of time. I think I requested a Motrin/Tylenol twice during my stay.
You need to do what YOU are comfortable with Good luck and I wish you an easy and safe delivery.

Re: c section doubts& fears/ madonna complaint
Definitely do what is more comfortable for you.
For me personally, if my twins were head down, I would of gone for the vaginal delivery. One was breech and one was vertex.
This is just my experience but I was in alot of pain after my c-section, so much so that I wasnt even able to see the babies the first day (only a couple of seconds after they were born). I think I regretted that the most. The next day I was still in alot of pain but I dealt with it and went to see them in the NICU.
As far as recovery goes, I am still a little uncomfortable from the surgery but every day its getting better.
Good Luck!!!!

Re: c section doubts& fears/ madonna complaint
You have to do what you are comfortable with. From day 1 I wanted to try for a vaginal delivery and my dr. was very supportive of that (same practice as TAH-WEE-ZAH). I wound up being induced at 38 weeks and was able to have a vaginal birth for both of them. The recovery was pretty quick and I never took any pain medicine other than motrin.

Re: c section doubts& fears/ madonna complaint
You really to to feel what you want to do.. I had a vaginal prior to having my csection. My recovery was horrible. I had a grade4 episomody and could ot sit for week. 4 years later I has some really not so nice side effects (and my daughter was alittle less than 7lbs)
My c-section recovery was great. I had no choice but to have them since they were already going to be 8 weeks early. But i healed so much faster and felt back to myself in no time.
Good luck and you will mkae the right chocie that is good for you

Re: c section doubts& fears/ madonna complaint
I wanted a vaginal birth and was induced fro 3 days at 35 weeks in all hopes of having a v-birth. Unfortunately i have 2 stubborn guys and I needed the c-section since one was much smaller and he needed to come out. The c-section was not bad. It was strange, but the recovery was not as bad as I thought it would be. I was hope 4 days later, but without my boys, so I was able to rest up a few days before one came home at a week old, so not sure how I would have been if they both came home with me on day 4, but it was fine. The scar is tiny when all is said and done and basically disappears.
You really have to do what you think is best and what your Dr's think is best.
Those ladies at Madonna are a-holes, IMO. How they can sit there and say that garbage is beyond me to a patient.

Re: c section doubts& fears/ madonna complaint
I was in the same situatuion you were in. Both of my babies we head down and I was placed in a situation where I didnt know whether to dry vaignially or c section. I was in pain the last month I had them at 37.5 weeks. After seeing Dr Goldstein (Madonna) and telling him my fears of both he told me his honest opinion was a c section. He said that there was a chance that one can move after the first one was out and I just couldnt think of having surgury after delivering a baby and being cut in multiple places. So after much thought I decided to have the section. I hat the section at 6:30 pm. It took me a while to recover from the spinal but I always have a reaction to anesthesia. By the next day I was up and walking around. I am not going to say I wasnt sore but I followed the pain medicine schedule and by 3rd day I was just taking motrin and the other pain meds as needed. I actually left the hospital on the 3rd day since I was up and walking around.
You have to do what you think is best. I liked to ask my drs for their opions and then I weighed out mu options. I had a high risk dr that thought the section was a goog idea and an Ob that hated it.
Good luck in your decision and either way you have a great outcome of 2 little babies....it is truley the best thing is the world.

Re: c section doubts& fears/ madonna complaint
i use Goldstein too. i am seeing him on wed. i am so torn b.c i know either way can be better or worse and at this point i cant tell which will be what....
my regular OB at first was like dont doubt yourself this is what you want and dont make yourself crazy. then weeks later when they were still vertex she was like do you still want the surgury. she said it with out jugement either way but made me think i could deliver vaginally and that one moving wasnt very likely after the first birth. but i know it can happen. its really a lot to think about!

Re: c section doubts& fears/ madonna complaint
A good friend of mine delivered twin vaginally and had no problems what so ever.
Again its up to you and you will make the right decision in the end. Try not to stress to much about it and the right decision will come to you.
