Interviewing and scheduled Vacations

I recently quit my job due to relocating.
I have been actively applying to jobs and scheduled several interviews.

I scheduled a trip to FL the last week of July for my inlaws bday and will be unable to cancel as its been booked for 6 months now. Also, my sister scheduled her last minute wedding the day before fourth of July, therefore I will be out of town two days prior for her wedding.

I know you typically wait until they actually offer you the position, however do you think a company will retract an offer because of this?

I would think it would depend on the type of job, but no I doubt they would.

I know I would never bypass a good candidate because they had vacation scheduled & told me in advance. I may have a problem with payroll advancing them vacation so soon so they would probably have to take those days without pay.

Same as Barb, we might also hold off on giving a start date until after that vacation time if possible.

Re: Interviewing and scheduled Vacations

as long as you give them enough warning (like the day you are hired) then i dont see there being a problem. i've done it before.

when they make an offer to you, just say "i would love to accept, however, i feel you should know that i will need time off on X and X". if anything, lie and say they are both weddings and you are in them so you cant cancel. thats what i did!Chat Icon

Re: Interviewing and scheduled Vacations

I always mentioned it if I felt the interview went well. Usually like "when are you available?". Then I would say... X, Y, Z week but I had some previous planned vacation and hope we can work around it., etc...

I would do the same. I'd be shocked that a couple of days off would be a dealbreaker to an employer. I would just add something in about understanding that you may have to go without pay.

Re: Interviewing and scheduled Vacations

Aww thanks guys... Im just a little worried as its already 1/2 through June already. I dont want to waste these next few weeks by not searching for a job because of the vacation.

I just wasnt sure how most have handled in the past.

Wish me luck:)

Re: Interviewing and scheduled Vacations

Hi.
Wait until you accept the offer.
My friend works in HR and people do it all the time.
It's ok!!
