Re: Anyone Here SHOW?

I took a handling class - it's not that easy! I thought it would be a piece of cake, I mean, how hard is it to walk around in a circle with a dog? Well, it's VERY hard! Especially when you have an untrained dog who just wants to play with the other dogs.....
Even with a show dog, it's not easy to do. I tried it with my breeder's female, and she almost tripped me a bunch of times Chat Icon

Re: Anyone Here SHOW?

We were thinking of entering Simba into shows since he wasnt fixed yet. If you are going to have a show dog you can not have them fixed. But after looking into it, their is so much involved. So much training, cost, care (more then the normal doggie care), traveling, etc...we passed. We like him just the way he is, carefree, lovable and playful. Trying to walk him in a circle and have him not play with the other dogs just wont work for him. He would want to play. Entering dogs into shows is like entering into beauty pagents. So much primping, pampering, and training.

We are talking to breeders now about our next pup, and one of them mentioned that you can take classes (AKC sponsored around the country) that are an "Intro to Show" kind of thing. If we decide to go with her and I talk to her again, I will get more info for you!
