I was offered a collaborative team teacher position...I have no idea what it means

Can anyone help? I was offered the position and I can't shake this bad taste I have in my mouth. I think its because I don't fully understand what exactly it is?

Would I be any LESS of a teacher than a single subject area teacher? Do they get paid the same? Am I sharing subjects? I apologize if there are CTT teachers on here...I just am completely ignorant...

(Essentially what happened was I interviewed for a 6th grade SS position, and was then told at the interview that I might also be a great fit for a new opening that they had in the 6th grade - a CTT position....I found out the next day I got the CTT position, not the SS position).

I'd appreciate any help.

I have taught in a CTT setting. I am assuming from your post you would be the general ed. teacher in the class. Is this in a MS or elementary? Would you still be teaching SS?

From what it sounds like, it is actually a compliment. Not everyone can be a team player and share a classroom. When two teachers work well together, everyone benefits, the teachers as well as the students. Feel free to FM me.

When I taught in the city, CTT classes were the inclusion classes. Both wer fulltime teachers except there was a general ed teacher and the special ed teacher. As a special educator in a CTT class you would team teach the curriculum with the general ed teacher. You would also modify curriculum/tests/etc within the classroom that has both general and special ed students.
You are definitely a full teacher!! Congrats on the job!!Chat Icon

Hi there! Thank you for your post. I'm really unclear about the position. It's a 6th grade teacher. I'd follow one of the 3 cohorts that they have. I don't know HOW they break the cohorts up - probably an important question.

Like I said, I interviewed for a different position and got the CTT position, so I'm kind of lost!!!Chat Icon

Are you certified in Special Ed? It sounds like you were hired for that position rather than a social studies teacher. I taught a CTT class last year and I was the english teacher and had a special ed teacher come into my 7th period everyday. The ratio in my class was 60/40. I basically taught the lessons and the special ed teacher modified them for the special ed students. Congrats on the job!!!!

It depends on the district and the specifics of the program but it sounds to me like you are teaching an inclusion class. In my district we call inclusion, collaborative. are you certified in special education? just curious because I am unsure of whether you are the special education or general education teacher.

The programs vary as I said but collaborative programs involve team teaching and a certain number of special education students and a certain number of general education students in the classroom.

I am a special ed teacher who has taught collaboratively in many subjects at the middle school and HS levels. FM me if you have more questions.
