Not from Robert moses anyway.
It can be very tough to find a hotel or rental that is decent. We are still trying and we started by calling people we knew from having rented out there for a long time. They are all booked! One house wants $6900 for a Monday- Friday rental. I think that's insane.
If anyone knows of anything, there are a few weeks that are an option for our group and we may be seeking to add to the group to get something affordable. We are only interested in Ocean Beach, Seaview and Cornielle.
For things to do: beach, BBQ, playground, movies. Just going to town for ice cream is an adventure. They have camps for kids but mine is only a baby.
FM me if you want more info. HTH.

Re: Fire Island' ers ?
have you tried the website (can't remember what its called) for renting people's homes and apartments? a guy i work with gets a 5 bedroom house for $1500 for the weekend - he shares it with his fiance and 4 other couples so it works out to be a good deal.

3 thoughts for you...
1) East End - there are some new hotels in Riverhead where the kids could enjoy Splish Splash Water Park and Atlantis Marine World never mind local events that take place on the farms. Adults will also enjoy plus there is the Tangier Outlet for shopping.
2) Take a drive... Mystic, Conneticut is a great town with an aquarium and a pirates cove. The Marriott is right there and not expensive.
3) Last year we drove with the kids to Lake George and stayed at the SixFlagsGreatEscape Lodge and Waterpark. Not only can you take advantage of the town and walks/drives near the lake this hotel has a wonderful indoor water park for kids and adults.
