one step at a time. I'm sorry to hear that anything is going on with your dad.

My MIL has a cyst on her pancreas as well and ended up getting her bile ducts cleaned out. After worrying for a week, that's what it was.

They mentioned pancreatic cancer at one point and it wasn't.

I'm thinking about you guys. What are the next steps?

I am really that you are dealing with this scary situation! It is awful. My dad died of Lung cancer in 1986. He was 41. I was only 10, so I don't remember too, too much, but I do know I know his symptoms came on very strong and he only lived 2 months after being diagnosed. Lung cancer is one of my biggest fears. It is aggressive and silent but keep in mind that so many advances have been made since my father's situation over 20 years ago.

my grammy passed away from lung cancer. it spread to her lymph nodes and brain. it was pretty aggressive - they gave her six months and that is exactly how long she fought it. she didn't have lung cancer from smoking - even though, when she was younger so smoked for a lil while and such, but for 90% of her life she did not and the docs did not attribute it to that -- some people get it no matter what... i think dana reeve (christopher reeve's wife) died from lung cancer and she never smoked either. so that is a common misconception. they did chemo and all that stuff w/ my grammy but it was just too severe - once it spread, that was it for her. i was in tenth grade at the time... it was in the year 2000.

My grandfather had it. He passed about 3 years after diagnosis. It did not help that he continued smoking unfiltered cigarettes until the day he died.

Beth, I hope everything turns out ok with your dad and they are just nodules and nothing else.

Thanks everyone Thank you for the FM's, the information and the hugs.

Right now we're just waiting. I am really frustrated with the doctors though because on Friday the attending physician at the hospital flat out told my Dad that it's likely metastis, and said he was referring my Dad to the hospital oncologist to find out the primary source of the likely cancer.

Well, needless to say my father was devastated and a total mess, as was I.

But, then we spoke to the oncologist yesterday who said there is no definite diagnosis yet and it could still be something else. They just don't know and cannot diagnose him with cancer unless and until they find cancerous tissue, which they haven't found yet. The only reason they are concerned though is he's showing no symptoms of infection, and the fluid in his lung has white blood cells and protein, which can be marker for malignancy.

So, now we wait. They are doing another full body cat scan and are going to take a camera into his lung to figure out exactly what's going on in there.

I just hope that the attending jumped the gun, and gave us false information, and that it turns out to be something much less significant than cancer.
