NEED ADVICE

DS climbed/fell out of his crib last night. Thankfully he did not get hurt too badly. He fell onto his back, thus knocking the wind right out of him and scaring the S#!T out of DH & I and his sister.

Today, during nap time, he spent 45 minutes trying to climb out and I spent 45 minutes watching the monitor with my heart in my throat and running back and forth to his room to tell him "NO!"

Here is the problem...I feel like he needs to get out of the crib and into a toddler bed, which would be fine...I think. Except, DC share a room and I fear that sleep will be a thing of the past for ALL OF US once they are both able to get out of their beds and run around. It will become a game and not sleep. (They are 20 months old, and although DD understands most of what we tell her, DS does not, so it is not like we can sit down and talk to them about calliing for us when they want to come out of thier beds.)

I am not one of those control freak moms, I swear. If DS had his own room, this would not even be a concern...I'd put him in a bed, but with the 2 of them together...I can't imagine what might happen...and keeping him in the crib to fall and get hurt scares me even more.

I also read that someone's child had the tent for their crib and got caught in it trying to climb out and was hung from it. The baby survived, but is brain dead! WTH????

What do I do? Any suggestions?????

Re: NEED ADVICE

I would put him in a toddler bed and put a baby gate up in their doorway so they can't get out.

Re: NEED ADVICE

thank goodness ds was ok. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

i have no advice because my two love waking each other up and they are only 13 months old. if one is still napping the other is constantly trying to get into the bedroom to wake him/her and the whole time they are doing it they are making the "shooshing" mouth with their finger!! Chat Icon

my guess is that at first it may be difficult, but once they get use to the novelty of new beds, when they are tired they will sleep. good luck!!! Chat Icon

I am also worried about them opening and closing drawers and getting their fingers stuck, since we can't see the entire room with the 2 cameras, just thier cribs.

Technically we could split them up, since we have an office, but emotionally, they are not ready. They hate to be apart!

Re: NEED ADVICE

WEll i have a crib tent and now that I read that I am so freaked out!!!!!! uuuugh!

But anyway, DH climbed outof her crib at 19 months and was in no way ready for a bed so we put the crib tent up and it works great.

I have the exact same problem. DD climbed out of her crib about 2 weeks ago but luckily has not done it since. Thank god! I know that DS is not emotionally ready to be split up from DD so I think when the time comes, we'll put the toddler beds in their room together, at least at first. I think its too many changes for them to get used to at once by doing both the bed & the split.

Re: NEED ADVICE

Not at this point yet.

Yes, if he was a singleton the answer would be, ok, toddler bed, gate the door, take most distractions out of the room but....

the biggest distraction is the twin sisterChat Icon

You can do all of the above but, I know, the giggle, poke each other, play... swing from the chandelier...lol. That's why mine don't sleep past 6 am.

Just like a singleton can CIO and you don't have to worry about waking up the baby in the crib right next to him or her.

So the standard solution doesn't really apply hereChat Icon

Have you tried posting this on any other multiple boards? There has to be a BTDT mom of older twins who has an ingenious solution.

Good luck. I think I'll be asking the same question soon enoughChat Icon Chat Icon

Re: NEED ADVICE

Thanks everyone...I got the tents last night and they worked out ok, other than the fact that DH had to rig the thing to fit on our cribs. Why don't manufacturers consider making things to fit on the new cribs that have wider fronts? I have had so much trouble with crib toys and mobiles fitting and now this! I should jump on the bandwagon and start my own line of things to fit sleigh bed type cribs!

I have also heard of tranistioning one at a time. We did them both at the same time, and night time was great, nap time was horrible for a while but they are back to napping great again.

Good Luck!
