What to get someone who just had a baby??

I loved all the personalized stuff that Jacob received. Especially the personalized burp cloths (they were embroidered) They are so cute and when going out look better than the plain ones. I got about 3 different sets of those.. There are many sites online that you can look at.

a gift baket filled with wipes (never can have to many) shampoos lotion, nial clippers etc...

Seriously, one of the best gifts I got was a case of diapers. Not real fun, but boy do you go though those fast in the beginning.
Also, we didn't find out what we were having, so gender specific clothes were good, but I'd get in bigger sizes. People tend to buy 3-6 month size and some bigger ones would have been helpful.
Gift cards to BRU were great, we were there all the time for formula and diapers.

You can never have too many wipes or diapers. You can also get formula (if she is feeding the baby formula). If Bfing, a book on Bfing.
ETA: I agree with the above poster...Gift cards are awesome too.

You know what we appreciated the most? Those friends who came over with food... and lots of it, that would last at least a week. In those first few weeks, you're so exhausted you have no time to cook. I have one friend who came over with two big bags of bagels, lox, whitefish, cheese, bread, etc.. she made me a meal and took Alex off my hands for a couple of hours so I could get some rest, and OMG, I thank her everyday for it!

I got this for my friend in FLorida who just had her son.. it also had baby shampoo and lotion. She loved it because it was something she could actually use.

I was just going to say the same. FOOD and Sleep! I know that's what I would appreciate the most.

Pampers Gift Certificate is nice.
If you're doing the monogrammed stuff - Polo has monogrammed shirts - but I would get it for 9 mos & older when new moms have just run out of clothes.

I like the diapers, wipes, desitin idea... We got some diapers at the shower but I know they will go so quickly.. You can make up a really cute little basket, and if you get them from BRU you can get a gift receipt in case they need a different size or want to use a different brand...

I had gotten some gift cards to BRU from the shower and they came in handy to get formula, diapers and stuff I didn't get from the shower.
