Ettiquete for resigning?
If you worked somewhere for less than 4 months do you need to give a few weeks notice? I'd love to be able to leave this place by Aug. 1. Of course I need to find a job first

Re: Etiquette for resigning?
I worked at a place once for a month (right after college), and i still gave them 2 weeks notice So, i think Yes.. it's the proper thing to do and just eliminates any burnt bridges.

Re: Etiquette for resigning?
I worked at a job for 2 months and hated it, but still gave them my 2 weeks notice. I seriously considered just leaving, because according to their policy I was still in an orientation period and did not need to give notice, but I felt that was unprofessional. Even though once I gave notice, no one spoke to me for 2 weeks.
I would give notice. You never know when your actions will come back to bite you.

I once told a boss that "today was my last day"
I would try to give 2 weeks if you can. Most companies that hire expect new employees to give 2 weeks and are willing to wait.

Re: Etiquette for resigning?
I will always give 2 weeks notice, unless it is beyond my control. This company I work for now got really upset that I wouldn't start right away. I told them that I wouldn't do that to my old company and I don't think you would appreciate if I did it to you. People have some nerve

Re: Etiquette for resigning?
I worked somewhere for 2 months and I hated it, I called them and told them I wasn't coming back. I didn't use them as a reference obviously. I fig. if a company were to lay me off, they wouldn't give me notice right?!

Re: Etiquette for resigning?
I would give the standard 2 weeks or so. This way if they needed they can try to find someone in that time frame but as a PP said if it is out of your control then no need for a notice.

Re: Etiquette for resigning?
At my last job, I gave my 2 weeks notice but they told me to leave that day!!
I did get paid for the whole 2 weeks though so I didn't care - it was like extra vacation!
