People who won't share recipes

We went to a BBQ last night where ALL of the food was amazing.

I asked DH's friend who prepared all of the food how he made one of the pasta salads and where he purchased the chopped meat for his burgers & he wouldn't tell me!!!!

I was SO annoyed!!! I mean, we are in totally different social circles so it's not like I am going to EVER entertain the same crowd, and even if I did, I would totally give credit to this guy for his recipe!

I hate people who hoard their recipes!!! What is the point????????

If someone asks me how I made something, I GLADLY tell them! I take it as a compliment!

I don't get it either. I love sharing recipes although I semi understand when they say it's a family recipe but it's not like I'm going to publish it or anything

my coworkers maks these amazing pies and never tells us whats in them

I would assume the ordered in and sprinkled some flour on their shirt

I don't understand it either, I have no problem sharing, and definately no problem sharing if you want to make it for me

I'm guilty of not sharing.

I work really hard to come up with my own stuff, especially baked goods and I just can't bring myself to give it away so easily. I will happily make them for people when requested, but to give up what I worked so hard to perfect... I just can't do it!

Don't get me started! Hubby has a relative who gets recipes from the back of a box of cream cheese and then says, "I don't share my recipes." I mean, I would understand if it was a family recipe or something that was original and had to go through many rounds of tweaking. Now, anytime she makes something tasty I just go online and find the recipe myself. However, I would never make one of these desserts for his side of the family.

I love to share recipes that people like. I don't feel like I have any reason to keep something delicious a secret, besides, then they can make it for me

I love sharing recipes. I do work hard to 'perfect' my stuff.. and when I succeed I want to share the wealth with EVERYONE!

I think some people identify their 'value' as a cook with the secrecy of their recipes. Like - if someone else makes a fantastic lemon meringue pie it brings down the worth of THEIR lemon meringue pie. It's silly to me - but to each his own!

I take it as a compliment if someone asks me for a recipe and gladly share.

I once went to a shower with an amazing dessert. When I asked the hostess how she made them she relpied "I made them very well, thank you."

anyhow, as any chef with a cookbook will tell you, following a recipe guarantees NOTHING.

I don't mind giving out my recipes for things, b/c I know I've got the 'touch" you may make it like I do, but you can't make it like I do. (unless you have better touch than me...and none of my friends do in any case )

I prefer to share my recipes. That way I'm not the ONLY one who knows how to make something.

If one of my sisters or my mom wanted to know how to make my cheesecake or sangria or whatever, I'd gladly tell them. That way THEY can make it the next time we get together.

(BTW, both my cheesecake and sangria recipes were passed on to me, they're not really MINE. I didn't invent them!)

DH's friend's wife is like that. I asked once and she gave me a weird answer. I should've know better than to ask her.
