Re: Breast Cancer: Do you get mammographies?
I got a baseline at 35 and since I turned 40, have gotten one every year.
ETA: I have no family history of BC, but since you do have history I would say you should start now.

Re: Breast Cancer: Do you get mammographies?
I had my first at 28. My mother's two sisters had BC when they were in their 30s.
My gyno recommended my mom and I get tested for the BRAC gene and it was negative, just found out this week. You should consider getting this done!

Re: Breast Cancer: Do you get mammographies?
Had my baseline two years ago. Had another one last week(dr also recommended that I get a breast sono). Everything was clean(thank goodness). I definately(sp?) recommend every woman over the age of 25 get one. Breast cancer is being found in younger women too.

Re: Breast Cancer: Do you get mammographies?
See, this totally baffles me. My mom has breast cancer, I told my gyn and they said it wasn't necessary yet. I'm 34!

Re: Breast Cancer: Do you get mammographies?
i just found a lump a month ago and instead of mammogram, my gyn they sent me for an ultrasound, since i am 28 and my tissue is hard to read on a mammogram.
id just go to your gyn, tell her that you are concerned about family history. then she will probably give you an exam then send you for a base ultrasound.
she may recommend you get one every year.
i also believe they have genetics tests to show if you carry a gene and they will watch you closely if you do.
so sorry to hear about your family members. hopefully it was all caught early and can get taken care of!

You should get tested for the BRAC gene and get a mammo.
You may want to question your doctor about this.

Re: Breast Cancer: Do you get mammographies?
I had my baseline at 35 and went back twice for sonos due to some lumpiness. I'm good for another year until my next sono and then will folow up with when my next mammo will be. My family has no history..except we all tend to be lumpy there.

Re: Breast Cancer: Do you get mammographies?
I have regular ones and sonograms (sometimes MRIs) starting at age 27. My mom had breast cancer (survivor) at 31 when I was about 18 months old so they monitor me very closely - also my paternal grandmother had BC as well (she is also a survivor). But I also have a painful fibroid adenoma so they are following that too.
