The Secret - Who knows it?
Many people are learning about it. Some already have known about it for years..
Update: Sorry.. I realize I should have been more specific.
There is a book and a movie - lots of people are reading the book - The Secret. So many people I know are raving about this book and how training their mind to be positive and put positive thoughts out there..
I just wanted to share this with you all.

Re: The Secret - Who knows it?
My Pop has been teaching us about this since the 70's..the law of attraction. When the Secret came out and I read it, I was like, "Okay, my Dad was WAAAY ahead of his time."
I 100% believe in the Law of Attraction because I have been hearing about it since I was a kid.

Re: The Secret - Who knows it?
The Secret reveals the most powerful law in the universe. The knowledge of this law has run like a golden thread through the lives and the teachings of all the prophets, seers, sages and saviors in the world's history, and through the lives of all truly great men and women. All that they have ever accomplished or attained has been done in full accordance with this most powerful law.
Without exception, every human being has the ability to transform any weakness or suffering into strength, power, perfect peace, health, and abundance.
Rhonda Byrne's discovery of The Secret began with a glimpse of the truth through a 100 year old book. She went back through centuries, tracing and uncovering a common truth that lay at the core of the most powerful philosophies, teachings and religions in the world.
What Rhonda discovered is now captured in The Secret, a film that has been viewed by millions around the world. The Secret has also been released as an audio-book and printed book with more than six million copies in print.
The Secret explains with simplicity the law that is governing all lives, and offers the knowledge of how to create - intentionally and effortlessly - a joyful life. This is the secret to everything - the secret to unlimited happiness, love, health and prosperity.
This is the secret to life.

I have this book on my nightstand. I have not finished it yet. But I definitely believe in the power of positive thinking to attract what you want in some way or another.

Re: The Secret - Who knows it?
I'm a big believer in the law of attraction. I use in life everyday. I prefer the podcast of the secret or the movie to the book. Hearing people like Jack Canfield tell their story is much more powerful than reading it to me.

Re: The Secret - Who knows it?
I read it and watched the movie last year right after my mom was diagnosed.
I think it's true to a certain extent, but I also think if something bad is going to happen it's going to happen.
I think it's more important to maintain a positive attitude when negative things happen. It makes it easier to get through the bad stuff and you end up having a better overall outlook.

Re: The Secret - Who knows it?
I believe that The Law of Attraction is valid - it has been taught by every spiritual leader forever. But I think "The Secret" oversimplifies it and makes it seem as though all you need to do is 'think good thoughts' and suddenly you will wake up with everything you have ever dreamed of.
Bringing your desires into the manifest IS absolutely possible - but it requires that you lose your rigid attachment to outcome. And that is the part that is tricky for most people. I mean - you ask "The Universe" to serve you in your desire and you express a trust in that infinite source of power and wisdom to bring your desires to fruition - but then you also narrow the field by telling it exactly what to bring. I find it to be incredibly huberistic when approached in that manner. For example - instead of making your intention "I want reliable transportation to help me get to work on time every day" - the intention becomes "I want a Silver Porsche with 2000 Horsepower, an anti theft system, a moonroof, 8 seats, an entertainment center and leather seats that runs 60 miles to the gallon".
The true secret - in my opinion - is understanding your own desires. People always say "I want money" - but money is just a symbol. The value is solely based on outside forces. A dollar is worth more or less depending on the stock market, etc.. So you have to think about WHAT you really want. Money is an easy out - it's a catch all. Say "I want to be able to spend more time with my kids" or "I don't want to work in a job I hate" or "I want to travel the world" or "I want to be out of debt". AND THEN - once you have been able to find your true desires and focus your intention on THOSE desires - Life will find a way to bring you what you intend.

well put. I believe the secret is an easy way for people that are not familar with the law of attraction to realize goal setting is crucial. I've been reading self-help books & taking motivational seminars for years and the overall message is the same. If you don't have crystal clear goals set for yourself, you'll never acheive the things you think you want to acheive.

Re: The Secret - Who knows it?
I just started to read the book, DH already read it. So far, we both think it is full of malarky.
I DO believe in the power of positive thinking and believe you should focus on the positive simply because it is a more joyful life that way. However, I don't agree that saying positive things out into the universe is going to make that be truth.
I also don't like how the opening of the book shares all these stories about money. I think that is a very shallow start to a supposedly deep message.
However, if people get something from this book and it improves their life, that is a good thing. I just can't believe that people who live with disease, famine, poorly are that way because thy think negatively.
Maybe when I finish the book I will think differently, but so far I am not impressed.

Re: The Secret - Who knows it?
I absolutely believe in this 100% and have been aware of the Law of Attraction for years before the book came out. I always try to tell my family and friends to never think negative because that's what they will draw to them. Some of them are finally starting to believe me!
Instead of making a board like many of the authors talk about, I made a book. Works just as well as long as you don't put it in a drawer and forget about it.

Songwriter76--
My father has been teaching this to us as well since the 70's....He taught me how to meditate when I was about 14 ...And when I read books or hear things...I can say, 'my dad could have written this book, and I heard that years ago --- my father has been a great teacher.
I have not read The Secret....b/c I felt I have been taught 'the secret' yrs ago...and it DOES work (the law of attraction !)
