Giants Trade Shockey To Saints
NEW YORK (CBS) ? Jeremy Shockey's tenure as the New York Giants' outspoken tight end has apparently come to a close. The defending Super Bowl champs traded the former first round pick to the New Orleans Saints on Friday, according to FoxSports.com.
The Giants will receive a second-round and a fifth-round draft pick in return, according to the report, which goes on to say the deal is now pending league approval and Shockey must pass a physical.
There were questions surrounding Shockey's future with the team as training camp drew closer this week, after numerous reports dating back to last season said that he'd told others he wanted to be traded.
He would have reported to camp at the University of Albany on Thursday and had his first practice on Friday. Instead, he'll now head to camp with the Saints and begin his career on the offensively-loaded squad led by Drew Brees.
That leaves now second-year surprise Kevin Boss as the Giants' main guy at tight end. As a rookie, Boss filled in quite nicely while Shockey was out with a broken leg, scoring two touchdowns over two regular season games and four postseason games.
