Mosquito Bite - Relief

DH was eaten alive on Saturday night all around his ankles and had me up the entire night! Woke up with him scratching at like 4am and then didn't go back to bed until 6...alarm scared the shiznit out of me a half hour later.

Soooo...with the lack of sleep, I need help. Besides Caladryl and Lanacane is there any instant spray relief or something...anything!!!

The bites are all over his ankles, there are like a dozen on EACH ankle.

Re: Mosquito Bite - Relief

They sell something called Afterbite. It is ammonia. I don't know for how long it works, but when I've used it I got some relief for the moment.

Re: Mosquito Bite - Relief

COLD water or ice. Part of the itch / irritation is actually swelling. After this, apply something topical like caladryl or the Benedryl extra-strength gel.

NOT scratching is key. The more you scratch, the more you spread the irritation. I realize you can't control this in your sleep, as I've woken up with bloody legs after being eaten by mosquitos... but when you're awake, resist the urge as much as possible. Reapply the topical stuff as necessary, and definitely apply right before bed!

I get really bad reactions to them, and the Benadryl gel works really well for me.

this is going to sound crazy - but i promise, it works....

using a nail (his or yours, whoever has good nails) - make an X over the bite. You can make a cross, or an X, just be sure that there is one part of a line crossing over another.

i've heard that this technically forces the 'poison' out of the bite itself and puts it back into the bloodstream, but it will help with the itching....that i can guarantee!

OMG, my mother taught me that a long time ago and I completely forgot about it. WOW...I cannot believe that my mother wasn't crazy when she told me to that once. Thank you so much for reminding me of it. Chat Icon

Re: Mosquito Bite - Relief

The mosquito love me, I have about 40+ bites on my legs, and I have been putting rubbing alcohol on them, the itch stops right away and for me it lasts almost all day, then I reapply!
