I found a buddy to train with- now I have some questions!

We're going to start the Couch to 5K plan next week! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

It's a 9 week plan, so I'd like to find a 5K race in late October/ November to be our first one.

Where can I find a list of races?

Can anyone join a race?

Is it really a "race"? As a beginner, I don't want to feel like I have to be super fast (at the moment I can't even run down the block without being winded). I'd like to have a decent time of course- but don't want to look like a loser either Chat Icon

Any advice from anyone?

Thanks!!!

KeriAnn that's awesome!!!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Here is where I have been looking:

Long Island Races

My first one was only a couple a weeks ago and to answer your question - yes it was a RACE! However, most of the people there IMO were just there for fun or to support the charity so there is no pressure other than the one you put upon yourself.

After you've been training a few weeks you'll probably get a better idea of time and then you can set your own personal goal.

Enjoy!!!! Happy running!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I'm in process of training as well.... but I can share how to find some races

Runners World has a RaceFinder option, just scroll down.

I think mapmyrun.com might also have race finders in your area.... GL!!!

We can do it!Chat Icon

My DH does the VA Med Center 4K (not just for veterans) at the VA golf course in Northport around Veterans Day. It's a 4K (~2.5 m) so it's good for beginners. It's a small, yet non competitive field.

I go with our oldest son to watch and I run the fun run with him.

Huntington Village also has a 4 mile race on Thanksgiving.
