Question???

I read somewhere that you should stay away from mayonnaise during pregnancy - Has anyone heard of this?

Re: Question???

I hope thats wrong.. i love that stuff... I always put on my BLT and have chicken salad all the time while prego.

eta: only reason i can see people say no to it is i think it contains egg.. but i think mayo is cooked or some how treated with high temp.

Re: Question???

Found this for you on pregnancy.org

Store bought mayonnaise, even though it contains eggs, is safe to eat during pregnancy. Because the product goes through processing, any potential pathogen that could cause foodborne illness would be destroyed during that process.

Other sauces and/or condiments made at home with raw eggs should NOT be consumed during pregnancy such as homemade mayonnaise, hollandaise sauce, etc. Keep in mind that uncooked cake batters, cookie dough, etc. that you make at home would contain raw eggs and should not be consumed!

Re: Question???

Mayo is fine during pregnancy - the only thing you might want to be careful of is items like egg or potato salad in the summer - as if it isn't kept properly can make you sick - but that you would want to do when you are not pregnant anyway.

It is raw eggs that you have to be careful off and items made with raw eggs.

Re: Question???

never heard...but maybe its because theres eggs in it, and you're not supposed to eat raw eggs.... that's my best guess.

Re: Question???

Only homemade mayo b/c it runs the risk of someone not using pastuerized eggs. But storebought is totally fine.
