cats w/crystals
Hello,
I have a male cat that tends to get crystals. I think he may be having issues again (ugh).
I put him on Science Diet c/d food the vet recommended last time. But the doctor couldn't offer much else.
Anyone have any info or suggestions ?
He is peeing, so I know that he isn't blocked.
TIA!

Re: cats w/crystals
I have a female cat with a history of urinary issues and what seems to have cured her problem is a strictly wet food diet. This way I don't have to worry about her staying hydrated.

My male cat uses the purina dry food from the vet for the same condition and the science diet wet c/d. My cats crystals are also brought on by stress....so he is on anti-anxiety medication as well.

Also, my vet said that if he still developed the crystals (he had to have his bladder flushed once) that they would have to surgically enlarge his urethra...essentially turning a male cat into a female.

Re: cats w/crystals
The doctor usually puts them on SD to get rid of the crystals then CD to maintain the health . If you think they are reoccuring ask him about trying SD.. unless you have already . . Also cats that eat wet food tend to do better because of the water content... So of course drinking water helps. I have the same issue. My cat will not eat wet food but does drink water. His Crystals have not returned as the CD is working but he throws up from Science diet . He was never good on any Science diet food, even before this issue. I am looking for something else to use as well.

Re: cats w/crystals
My cat was diagnosed with the crystals a few weeks ago and is currently on a special gel that he is *supposed* to like the taste of so much that he will lick it off my finger - not happening I have to force-feed him and hope to bring him back in a week or so for another test to see if it has improved.
The vet will then give us the Science Diet food which both kitties will end up having to eat. Both my cats love the friskies wet food, but not the SD. They suck up the juice so much that I even add extra water and they drink all that and leave the "meat" behind.
