SS called up crying last night
He called up my DH at 10 pm last night crying because he just started a new job with my DH's company. He was a little overwhelmed because it was his first day and there is a lot to learn (it is a pretty good position). Well, he must have told his mother about his day and she proceeded to tell him that he might as well quit now because he is stupid and he will never get it. She went on to call him every version of stupid, lazy, etc. in the book. This kid is 18 and no saint, but seriously?!? This is supposed to be a mother?
I have the pleasure of having a crazy psycho ex to deal with. You will all come to know her well eventually (unfortunately for everyone).
She seems to find pleasure in tearing her kids (and of course, me and DH)down for some reason. She is only concerned about her own life and trying to catch a man.
So any advice on how to console SS without saying bad things about his mother. We try not to do that even if the kids do because it always comes back to bite us. Of course Dh went over to the house last night until 11:30 trying to calm him down as I sat home alone 8 1/2 mos pregnant.
Any words of advice or encouragement or whatever? It seems like there is always something and I am always

Re: SS called up crying last night
It's so tough to keep a closed mouth sometimes isnt it!!!????
My parents were divorced when I was very little. My father is not what a husband, father, or friend should be...Let's put it this way...he has 5 daughters and has never walked a single one of us down the aisle...Growing up my mom never said a single bad word about my dad. She let us figure it out for ourselves what dad was all about. At some point when we became adults we all did...
Im sure your SS knows exactly how his mother is and just needs you to be there and listen.

I'm sorry you have to go through that...all I can say is to be the positive force in your SS life...every moment you get tell him something positive about himself. I have seen how a person can get so lost from the belittlement of a parent..but one positive person in their life can totally save them.

ITA, keep being that positive person he can count, in the end it will pay off and the negativity from his mom wont even be a factor to him cause he will have you and his dad.

Re: SS called up crying last night
That is so sad!! I can't believe a parent could do that to their child. I have a hard time myself figuring out how to keep my mouth shut. I'm sorry I don't have any advice other than to be their for him and keep trying to build him up.
