Re: Migraine headaches.......
For me, Imitrex is what works best.
Maybe your dosage is too high?
I have been taking 25mg for over 10 years & never had to increase.

Re: Migraine headaches.......
I have them. Sporadically but when I get them they are terrible and life intereupting.
I don't like the side effects of the drugs like Imitrex so what I do is try to find ways to prevent them naturally.
I did a lot of research and what has helped me is taking 3 mg of Melatonin every night (all natural sleep supplement- you can get it in any vitamin aisle) and also taking extra magnesium with my vitamins. Studies have shown that lack of both of these can trigger migraines. Let me tell you- the frequency and severity of my migraines has really decreased since taking both of these daily.
When I do get one- I pop 4 advil the second I feel it coming on (make sure you eat something first though) and since I get very nauseous from my migraines I also take a less drowsy Dramamine (Believe it or not). That stops me from vomiting. I also find that if I take a magnesium pill when it starts- it goes away faster.
Hope that helps- I know how awful they can be!

Re: Migraine headaches.......
I used to get them growing up really bad so the doctor never really prescribed anything for me because I was young. I always get symptoms before the headache. I get the crazy lines in my eye and I can't really see and then I get numbing in my hands. As soon as I get those symptoms I take two Advil Cold and Sinus and lay down until the symptoms go away which is about 15-20 minutes. I get a slight headache and I am exhausted but I don't get that severe headache where I can't stand light or any noise and I throw up. It seems to help me right now. If it doesn't work for me in the future I will be going to the doctor to get a prescription because I can't handle a full blown one. I am in bed at least until the next day sometimes two days that they are so bad.

Re: Migraine headaches.......
I used to get them really bad. My neuro tried so many meds with me, but the only thing that ever worked was Excedrin Migraine.

Re: Migraine headaches.......
I had them soooo bad, the only thing that would take the edge off was Excendrin Migraine, and I tried soooo many different meds.
Then my dr put me on topral and celebrex, and this helped tremendously. Not right away, but after getting it into my system. I have been off it since before I had my first child, and even though I get migraines at times, they are no where near as often as I used too.

Re: Migraine headaches.......
I take Imitrex, usually 25mg. If it's a true migraine, nothing over the counter works for me. I also recently started the magnesium supplements.
