Re: When to see a doctor?
I went as soon as I realized that I was going for a really long time between periods. We were trying for about 6 months at that point.

Re: When to see a doctor?
I would go now. You have nothing to lose. RE means reproductive endocrinologist. This is the type of doctor that you should see if you suspect you have a problem ... not your regular ob/gyn.

Re: When to see a doctor?
I think everyone has their favorites. I was 110% happy with NSUH ( center for human reproduction at north shore university hospital) my doctor was Dr. Rosenfeld. Im planning on seeing him again soon for baby #3.

Re: When to see a doctor?
Nancy it was a few years ago so Im not so sure but I believe DH was tested first.. I didnt really have to many tests done, maybe just a sonogram.. but I was going into into it with 1 child and a few m/c's so I think they can imediatly rule out a few things..
Just did one month of clomid with an IUI and got pregnant.. I think I just needed that little help.

Re: When to see a doctor?
Weve been trying for almost 13 months but I was seeing my OB since about 6 months because of irregular cycles. They kept telling me just keep trying it'll happen. I wish I had gone to the RE sooner than I did (at 11 months I made the appt but wish I had at 6) and thats because I found out that I have borderline PCOS and am not ovulating on my own and will need meds to help me out. And this is for our 2nd baby. We concieved no problems on cycle 4 the 1st time around.
Good Luck to you and if you are unsure talk to your OB. I made the appt with an RE on my own w/o a recommendation from my OB.

Your paps are back to normal? Or no? I think you need to start asking a LOT more questions. If your this unsure whats going on with your body, you need to know more before TTC. Seeing an RE is a lot of work and it involves a lot of work on the patients part to get the right care, you need to know and understand what they will be doing and what your options are. Start doing some online research and ask your Drs a lot of questions, it will make TTC a lot more easier for you.

My paps were abnormal for 2 years, the drs did a lot of biopsies and colposcopies before it was determined they waited too long and I ended up having first stage Cervical cancer...VERY treatable at that stage and I had two surgeries to 100% remove it and have had normal paps since ( almost 3 years), but thank god they didnt wait. My Mom had similiar issues and had to have a complete hysterectomy at 29 yrs old. You need to get a second opinion and now. If you have had more then 1 year of abnormal paps you should be having biopsies and at least some type of laser surgery or procedure to try to remove the abnormal cells before they grow too deep.
Good luck!!!

Re: When to see a doctor?
Nancy, I would never accept them telling me they just cant figure out why my paps for so long are coming back bad.. If this doctor cant figure it out then please see someone else for another opinion.. The internet is a great search tool but you still should really see someone else to try to determine whats wrong.

Re: When to see a doctor?
I have irregular paps -- due to HPV (human papillomavirus). This CAN lead to cancer and must be monitored, but my OB also told me it may just "go away" one day but until then to have regular paps. Maybe this is what they found? It is extremely common and most people don't even know they have it...
Genital HPV infection is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) that is caused by human papillomavirus (HPV). Human papillomavirus is the name of a group of viruses that includes more than 100 different strains or types. More than 30 of these viruses are sexually transmitted, and they can infect the genital area of men and women including the skin of the penis, vulva (area outside the vagina), or anus, and the linings of the vagina, cervix, or rectum. Most people who become infected with HPV will not have any symptoms and will clear the infection on their own.
Some of these viruses are called "high-risk" types, and may cause abnormal Pap tests. They may also lead to cancer of the cervix, vulva, vagina, anus, or penis. Others are called "low-risk" types, and they may cause mild Pap test abnormalities or genital warts. Genital warts are single or multiple growths or bumps that appear in the genital area, and sometimes are cauliflower shaped.
