Re: Ok, now I'm nervous about retrieval

Believe me... it is no big deal. I was really worried about the anesthesia too and there was nothing to it. You'll walk into the OR, lie down on the table, put on a blood pressure cuff, they will start an IV for the anesthesia, a few minutes later you will just fall asleep. You'll wake up right after the procedure, maybe a little groggy.

Don't worry!

There is seriously nothing to worry about. The anxiety leading up to the procedure is the worst part. Anesthesia for ER is a low dose sedation. It goes through the IV only. You'll be fine.

Re: Ok, now I'm nervous about retrieval

Honestly it was a piece of cake for me.
It was actually kind of funny because when I woke up I didn't want to move because as I told the doctor...I was sooooo comfortable!!
How funny, nice that I'm comfortable in that position!

Good luck!! It is such an amazing thing you are doing.

It is really not bad at all. You will basically just doze off. As OP said it is thru your IV. You will wake pretty much immediately when you get into the recovery room. A little groggy but ok. Good luck! Chat Icon Chat Icon

It's not a big deal at all. It's a short nap and you will wake up a little tired but you will recover very quickly. I was so bloated before my retrieval that I actually felt some relief afterwards since they drained the follicles.

I haven't had my ER yet but I have been under general/twilight anesthesia 3 times and they were the BEST naps ever Chat Icon Seriously though, it's going to be fine. Two of my friends went through ER and said that was the easy part of all of their IVF testing/procedures.

Good luck!!!

Re: Ok, now I'm nervous about retrieval

I was freaking about this. I never had an IV or anesthsia etc so much so that my blood pressure was through the rough right before the procedure. It was srsly nothing. The worst part was walking down the the operating room and laying on the table for me... just cause I was so anxious!

Re: Ok, now I'm nervous about retrieval

ER is the easiest part. You go to sleep and 15 minutes later (I kid you not) you wake up. You should feel pretty good when you walk out of there. Getting dressed after the procedure is probably the hardest part. Its like getting dressed drunk or something. I rested the rest of the day, but I was really milking it. I have done this twice and had no bleeding or soreness afterwards either.

You are wonderful for doing this!!! Just wanted to say that. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Also get gatorade and drink it reguarly for a few days after the er. It really helps with the bloating!

Its not a big deal - they give you warm blankies and everyone is so nice

Its honestly just like taking a nap

All the anesthelogists I had tell me to go to a nice place in my mind - so start thinking of a place now

Re: Ok, now I'm nervous about retrieval

Like MrsRbk told me beforehand, "it was the best nap I ever had!"

SO true Chat Icon Good luck!!

PS The only thing that bugged me was when they started the anasthesia (sp) it burned my arm a little which they told me was totally normal but it startled me Chat Icon
