Backpack shopping
Can anyone recommend where I might go to find character backpacks? My lil one is starting kindergarten soon.
Toys R Us is pretty picked over already and Kohls selection was limited. I live near Roosevelt Field mall but haven't gotten there yet -- where would I even start?
All suggestions most welcome.
Thanks, Theresa

Re: Backpack shopping
try target. They have a bunch of backpacks, and the usually carry the smaller ones in the luggage section.
HTH!!
Good luck to your lil one in Kindengarten!!

Re: Backpack shopping
Does it have to be a character backpack? They tend to fall apart pretty easily. Having been through 2 (Target & Staples) backpacks for kindergarten & 1 (Pottery Barn) for first grade that was destoryed, I've now opted for ones that come with warranties (Lands End).

They are great - if you get it on-line you can have it personalized with their name too!!

I always have a problem with Christopher because the personalizations are up to 10 characters long and he is 11

Re: Backpack shopping
I am not a mom, but I do teach Kindergarten and I donate backpacks for the homeless every year-I've found that the ones at Target that are around $10-$15 (canvas type) are great..this year, I bought adorable ones with frogs on them and they seemed sturdy with pockets..enjoy!

Re: Backpack shopping
Thanks to everyone for the leads on backpacks - my mind was going blank on where to try next.

For this year, I really did want a character backpack. DS is not really looking forward to kindergarten so I thought that a cool, new backpack with a favorite character would make it just a little bit more enjoyable. Hopefully we can transition to a sturdy Lands End bag in another year or 2.
Thanks again! Theresa

Re: Backpack shopping
Walmart, target or another Kohls. I was in the one in Massapequa the other day and they had tons of them.
I got DS one for daycare at Toys R Us. He loves Thomas and it definatley made his time at daycare easier with that bag. It was like a security blanket for him. You get a free lunch cooler with a backpack at toys r us but I agree, their selection was picked over and that was over a month ago!

Oh, I love the Massapequa Kohls! I used to live right near there and liked it so much more than the one that's closer to me now.

Re: Backpack shopping
Disney store at roosevelt field had CARS (lightning mcqueen) when i was there a few weeks ago.
I thought Target had a rather weird selection this year ...but maybe you'll get lucky.
I ended up ordering one online for DS who is start pre-pre K this year. He got a toddler lightning mcqueen - totally obsessed with themed bags, toys so i understand where you are coming from!

Re: Backpack shopping
Just thought I'd update ....
I ended up buying a Pirates of the Caribbean backpack on sale for $10 at the Disney Store at Roosevelt Field. They still had a nice selection - not picked over at all.
I also saw some nice ones (not character, though) at the OshKosh store at the Source Mall.
Thanks all for the quick responses.
