The rate your boss section in reviews
We often see complaints about bosses on these boards so I was wondering
When your company does yearly reviews, do you address your concerns and truthfully say what your issues are with your superviser or do you keep your mouth shut because things can only get worse if you offer critique?
The reason I ask is because my new boss is an abrasive micro manager who likes to pick on every little thing I do... I am just wondering what I should or shouldn't say, come review time...

Re: The rate your boss section in reviews
At my last job I did, but I also knew I was leaving for a different opportunity so it probably gave me the courage to say something about my horrible boss.
otherwise I would suffer through afraid of the consequences.
the only time I think it could work is when you work for a really huge firm where there is always potential/opportunity to move around (like IBM for example)

Re: The rate your boss section in reviews
Our supervisor reviews were anonymous, so I always said what i felt. HOWEVER ... my old boss was fabulous and there really wasn't anything to fault her on.

Re: The rate your boss section in reviews
IMO, if you say something (unless you get to comment anonomously) I would bite my tongue and if s/he makes you miserable to the point where you hate going to work, start looking for another job.
This happened to me at my last job - I had to comment on my boss twice. Once was in defense of myself when she gave me a bogus write up....I defended myself with emails from my boss and other top execs demonstrating that i am doing a good job when my boss made up flat out lies about me, twisted things around, etc. to make me look like a terrible employee. i also had to bring up to HR's attention some of what was said verbally to me. Well my boss got a talking to after that and the report was ripped up. The second time was self-review time. I tried to be very diplomatic (ie - i feel like i am constantly kept out of the loop with things my department is working on and feel foolish when others approach me on such things. perhaps this is due to the heavy workload my manager faces....)
what happened in the end? seniority won and she figured out a way to let me go since she had lost all credibility and i was not 'fireable.'
so like i said, IMO, don't do it. it will bite you in the arse.
