Which is the better deal?

My sisters are planning a brunch baby shower for me in November. The price per person includes 1 mimosa or Bloody Mary and coffee, but no soft drinks, wine or beer. For 15 extra dollars pp, you can have unlimited wine, beer and soda or you can have an open bar tab. About 10 of the guests are drinkers, the rest are either pregnant or will have 1 glass of wine, soda or beer. Which do you think is the better deal? The 15 pp or taking a chance with the open bar?

TIA!

PS- The shower is from 12:30-3:30 PM; approximately 20 guests.

Re: Which is the better deal?

I am not a big drinker myself, but I don't see a need for an open bar for a brunch during the day.

I would do the open bar...but maybe don't "mention" the open bar...most people will just assume that it is wine and soda.

This is what i was thinking. Most people will just order a juice or soda with their meal (depending on what they get.) I thought the 15 pp was a lot for only a few people that drink.

in the afternoon like that, i would have put carafes of mimosa and bloody marys on the table, and just have the waiter ask "can i get you a soda?" when he takes orders..

This way, youre kinda limiting what people can drink..its kinda fashionable to have those drinks only at a brunch anyway, and people will see it as a nice extra..
no ones gonna drink a pitcher of them lol
well, unless theyre friends of mine hehehe

Re: Which is the better deal?

I agree with pp, there's no need for an open bar at an baby shower brunch.

When I had my sister's we didn't even have any alcohol served at all, only non-alcoholic drinks. First, it started at 12 pm (brunch)..My parents and I didn't see the need for drinks, second, I didn't want to pay for alcohol, 3rd, I didn't want the legal responsiblity of someone drinking and then driving.
