Re: SEVERE acid reflux (HELP PLZ!)

This happened to my my entire first trimester. I lost 13-14 pounds because I was vomiting from the acid and couldn't eat. The only thing that worked for me was acupuncture. I felt better within 2 days and it lasted for a few months. Only recently did the reflux begin again (I am 31 weeks today). I suggest acupuncture as Tums, rolaids, zantac, small meals, NOTHING worked. Chat Icon

NEXIUM!! It has been a lifesaver. I never had reflux before and it started for me in my second tri. After taking Pepcid twice a day with no relief they gave me this and it has helped SO much. I can actually sleep without being bolt upright.

Talk to your doc about taking Nexium 40mg. I've been on it for several years due to an ulceration in my duodenum as well as horrible reflux. I have been taking it throughout my pregnancy and have not had any reflux. Good luck!! Chat Icon

Re: SEVERE acid reflux (HELP PLZ!)

sorry your having it so bad, another suggestion may be to increase what you are eating, 3 small meals a day does not sound like much. I know once I started snacking in between meals I felt a lot better in my 1st trimester when I was sick. The acid problem just started for me a couple of weeks ago, usually after I lay down in bed. I try to eat lighter meals now in the evening which helps a lot and I avoid anything heavy (cheese etc) that takes longer to digest. My doctor suggested sleeping elevated with more pillows...Is there anything your doctor can prescribe?

Re: SEVERE acid reflux (HELP PLZ!)

I had very severe MS in my first trimester. i think a lot of it was related to acid reflux.

WHen I was going to vomit I would eat 2-3 tums and drink some water. It helped to neutralize the acid and stop teh burning when I would vomit. Before I started doing this my voice was so hoarse because it was burned so bad.

I lost 14 lbs my first trimester form being so sick. I got so tired of it and couldn't take it anymore so my Midwife put me on Pepcid which is used for reflux and is safe during pregnancy. Pepcid helps to neutralize the acid in your stomach......It did wonders for me. WIthin a few days of being on it I got less nausea and started vomiting less. Within a week I stopped vomiting completely!

I know how you feel!!!!

Feel better!!!!
