Need a learning objective

for 2nd grade math? I'm student teaching and have to teach a math lesson. I was going to have:

Students will recognize and comprehend the symbols for addition/subtraction and become proficient in combining/deducting numbers in order to find their sums.

Do they know this already? I'm a little lost

i always do a skill and a strategy. like what is one thing you want them to learn, how are you going to teach it.

like : solve addition number stories by using manipulatives.
