Food Processor?
Registered for one, got it as an engagement gift and have had it over a year now. It's still in the box. DH wants me to use it or return it, but a close friend gave it to us so I'd really like to use it.
But... what do I use it for? I always end up chopping up veggies by hand, and I'm not sure if this will save time or be more of a hassle.
Do you have one? Do you use it? If so, can you give me some ideas of something to use it for? I'd like to surprise DH this weekend by using it for dinner one night

Re: Food Processor?
You can make dressings or dipping sauces for appetizers.
I think maybe pesto sauce...
And I know I use it to grind up walnuts and bread when making meatloaf (I make vegan meatloaf, so I'm not sure if you'd need it for reg, but you might!)

Re: Food Processor?
hmm....sometimes we use it to chop a lot of nuts (like for cookies that have a ton of nuts in them....)
DH did use for something recently, but I can't remember! We have one of those mini ones though...

Re: Food Processor?
i have a mini one and i love it so much.
the big one is probably a pita to take out, and wash after
use it for homemade hummus (which ive broken the motor on my blender and magic bullet making - so id love one for that) also soups, pesto, homemade sauce
watch the food networks a few times and im sure you will see someone use it for recipes within 2 -3 shows

Re: Food Processor?
Mine is still in the box too. And I HAD to have it. I don't know what I was thinking. I don't even have room for it. I remember my mom used to make dough in it, for pie crusts and things like that.

Re: Food Processor?
I love mine
I have made dressings, sauce, salsa,
chopped up nuts,
there is a great oreo truffle receipe you can make with it also.
Ingredients
* 1 lb Oreo cookies (3 sleeves) * 8 ounces cream cheese, room temperature * 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (using different extracts allows for subtle flavour changes...I've used mint extract, upped to 1 tsp) (optional) * 1 lb milk chocolate * 1/2 lb white chocolate
Directions
1. Using a food processor, grind cookies to a fine powder. 2. With a mixer, blend cookie powder, cream cheese and vanilla extract until thoroughly mixed (there should be no white traces of cream cheese). 3. Roll into small balls and place on wax-lined cookie sheet. 4. Refrigerate for 45 minutes. 5. Line two cookie sheets with wax paper. 6. In double-boiler, melt milk chocolate. 7. Dip balls and coat thoroughly. 8. With slotted spoon, lift balls out of chocolate and let excess chocolate drip off. 9. Place on wax-paper-lined cookie sheet. 10. In separate double boiler, melt white chocolate. 11. Using a fork, drizzle white chocolate over balls. 12. Let cool. 13. Store in airtight container, in refrigerator.

DH uses it fairly often. He makes pesto, various dipping sauces, guacamole and pizza dough with it.

Re: Food Processor?
yes i have one- i use it to make homemade salad dressing, stuffing for stuffed mushrooms, use it to chop nuts and to grind nuts to powder (like almond powder for cakes). Use it for pesto, to make dough, etc
I love mine. I don't use it every week- but I'm glad I have it.
although i have a 14 cup and it's WAY too big- wish I had the next smaller size

Re: Food Processor?
I use mine usually around Hannukah to shred potatos and onions when I make my potato latkes. I think the only other time I really use it is also around Thanksgiving when I make turkey salad from leftovers.

Re: Food Processor?
I love mine. I use it more in the winter to chop things like celery and nuts. I also like the taste of shredded cheddar cheese fresh rather than from the bag in the dairy aisle. So i cut a chunk of cheddar and put in the shredder blade and make have fresh cheddar or any other kind of fresh cheese that i use. I use it at the holidays lot to cut up the ingredients for stuffed mushrooms and stuffing. I buy the block of parmesan cheese and cutit up in the processer. Much cheaper than buying it already in the container and i just think it tastes SO much fresher.

Re: Food Processor?
I use it mostly for chopping onions. I'll cut up 4-5 at a time, toss 'em in the processor, and freeze them in 1/4 increments. So much less work when preparing a meal.

Re: Food Processor?
I have a samller one and I use it. I have done the following: *make bread crumbs *shred zuchinni, carrots, cabbage...well I am sure you can shred/ chop any vegtables in it. *I use it when I need to ground my oreo cookies when making the dessert, Mud. *I make pudding in it *frosting
I like having it and would give up my blender before I gave up my food processor.

Re: Food Processor?
heck yeah, I use it all of the time....
quick slicing veggies (ex. cucumbers, zucchini, carrots) for entrees and salads
making meat patties (I combine 10 oz minced mushrooms, and 1/2 a large pureed bell pepper, then take out of the machine and add one egg, bread crumbs, salt, and then 1 lb ground chicken... yummy!)
chopping cooked broccoli for cream soup
chopping herbs for pesto and other herb sauces
pie crusts
also, if you're only chopping veggies, you don't even have to wash it! just quickly rinse with cold water right away and it's all totally clean.

So ironic! I just got this recipe from a friend last weekend and made it for the first time on Thursday night for a baby shower we were having at work. It was the first time I ever used my mini food processor and we've had it close to 3 years!
