Share a room vs. having their own

If your twins share a room did they have trouble sleeping? For example did they wake each other up with CIO?

If you split them into to different rooms did you find that they slept better.

Obviously I am having sleeping troubles here.

we kept the boys together since day 1. One will NOT go to sleep without the other in his crib. We did CIO with matthew last year and Christopher slept through the whole thing.

Re: Share a room vs. having their own

We have a two bedroom so they sleep in the same room.

Its weird, when they are napping in the living room together if one starts crying, they will wake the other one up, but when they are in the crib at night, one could be screaming and the other one will sleep through the whole thing.

Eventually we will buy a 3 bedroom so that each girl can have there own room.

This is the current topic of conversation in our house.
Usually, believe it or not, it's rare that they wake the other up long enough for it to be a problem. In the early days DD would cry and DS never woke up at all... I swear he could sleep on the runway of an airport.

I figure within the next year we need to:
**redecorate nursery for DD's big girl bedroom
**redecorate spare bedroom for DS's big boy bedroom
**buy two sets of furniture, etc. that will last them to collegeChat Icon
**separate them
**transition them from crib to bed
**start potty training.

They are 17 months now.
No way can the rooms be redone during the school year, I'll be "burning the midnight oil" as it is

I'd be open to suggestions from BTDT moms of twins who went through this as to what order worked for them.

Obviously, as B/G they can't stay, won't want to stay together forever and I'd like to get though at least this winter with them in the same room. So much easier.

Re: Share a room vs. having their own

Thanks for the responses. I always go to the twin who is a screamer in the middle of the night b/c I don't want two babies up at the same time.

Tonight I will try to let him cry and see what happens.

This is how it is in our house - they are going on 3 and still share a room - they will probably stay that way for another year or 2 - we have a 3 bedroom house - so they kinda have to share until we can finish our basement and make another bedroom down there.

Re: Share a room vs. having their own

This is becoming the issue in our house. I had read that it's good to let twins decide when they are ready if they want to have separate rooms. But Jack is a sleeper and Kevin not so much. Some mornings (or middle of the nights) i have heard Kevin screaming until he wakes up Jack....but they so enjoy being in the same room together. I don't know what to do when they are going to be in toddler beds. Jack would be such a happier kid if he got his sleep, but I think they both really enjoy being together. However, when they are in beds, I am afraid Kevin will try and come over and wake Jack...if that starts to happen then separate bedrooms it is!

Same room for now. If and when we move, we'll give them the option. They'll obviously be older then and be able to decide for themselves.

They are together and I don't see them ever wanting their own rooms. They sleep together in most nights. They didn't wake each other while sleeping but when we transitioned to beds it was crazy fro a few weeks since they would not nap, but they still need to, but now they are back to normal. Once they were in beds the one that woke up was able to come and get me so he doens't feel the need to wake his brother up, since they are not trapped in a crib. We will seperate them if they want, but wil give them that choice when they are older.

Mine are B/G twins share a room. I figure I will have them share until about 5 years old. It will be interesting to see what happens when they eventually don't have cribs but for now it all works out great!
