I think I may be the only one on the boards doing this at the moment, but sweetcin also did it.
My reasons are as follows:
*want DH to have a big moment annoucncing ITS A __________
*It's fun having people guess the sex of the baby and I think more exciting having everyone waiting and wondering the day of
*I dont want 957696749 frilly pink or pale blue outfits (i feel when people dont know there is FAR LESS clothes at the shower)
*Its fun having a secret that just me and DH know and get to plan/bond with the baby in our own way
*To piss off SIL (hahahaha)

that was our reason! And we got very little clothes at the shower. we played the 'ultimate shower game' guess the gender and the name.... and then we told them!

A friend of mine gave out fortune cookies at the end of her shower with the baby's gender and name and such on it

Last I checked the baby's parents ARE the most important when it comes to the birth of THEIR child....
Give me a break and if you really feel that way, post under your "real" name.

Re: Women who know the sex of their babies but are not sharing with anyone....
As Jen said, we did this mainly b/c we felt we wanted some sort of surprise for everyone when the baby was born (particularly for our parents & siblings).
We didn't tell people our choice of names either (that b/c we didn't want comments on if you liked the name or didn't & once the baby was here, people aren't going to say, why did you choose THAT?!)
It was also fun throughout the pregnancy having people guess or say, I think it's a boy b/c ....xyz.... or it must be a girl b/c ....xyz....
I say do what you want, you're the parents. We plan to do it next time around as well. It is extremely hard not to slip though...we just made sure to slip w/ he once & then next time say, "oh I feel her kicking" etc.

Re: Women who know the sex of their babies but are not sharing with anyone....
I can totally understand why people do this. This is such a personal time for the parents to be.
I so feel that way about not revealing the names either.
People are so judgemental and make the most ridiculous comments while you are pregnant, that I sometimes feel like the less information you give out the better.

Also I do not want the 8million "suggestions" on the name.

Do people know you know the sex? I'm a terrible liar. If I knew the sex and people asked or guessed, my face would totally give it away.

Crashing!!
I'm curious- those who find out the sex but don't want anyone else to know- are you doing all gender neutral stuff anyhow?
What was the point of finding out for yourself if you were going to do all neutral stuff anyway?
(not trying to be snarky- I'm actually curious as to the reasoning )

I am a terrible liar so if people knew I knew all they'd have to do was ask and I'd give myself away in a milisecond. -
So, we'll be teling the sex b/c I don't like gender neutral stuff anyway ........
I think we might try to keep the name to ourselves though .........I'm not really interested in everyone weighing in w/ their opinions of my name choices .........
If I pick it, it's b/c I like it. - I don't CARE if you like it too !!

DH and I thought about finding out and not telling, but I cannot hold out on that information.
I am a terrible liar and I would probably bust at the seams for the next 20 weeks if I had to hold that in...haha. I wish I had more self control!
DH is worse than me though...so that doesn't help!

I found out by accident. I kept it to myself for 19 weeks. Not even DH knew. When DD was born my OB said what's her name and we had to say we didn't have one. I couldn't push DH too much on the name thing b/c then he would have known it was a girl!!

I think it kind of demonstrates a air of overassumed self-importance.
I would say this about the people that ASSUME they have a right to know that person's baby's sex and possible future names.
I totally respect when someone tells me they aren't telling name selections/sex.
