Anyone Teaching in Self-Contained?
It is my first year with my lovely class. I am just wondering how you break it up...because although I have first grade and second grade materials- my students cannot do most of the pages. Do you make your own??

Re: Anyone Teaching in Self-Contained?
yes, i either make my own, or go down a grade level. i am 5th self-contained, so i use a lot of 3rd and 4th material.
in your case, i would stick with kindergarten materials and 1st grade materials.

But are all your students alternately assessed? How will they pass the state tests? I teach two grades in one...AHhahaha! I need any hints you have thanks!

Re: Anyone Teaching in Self-Contained?
None of my kids are alternately assessed... although some should be, but that's another story. they all take the state tests. i do prepare them for it, but the fact is, they are BELOW grade level. if i can get them to a 2 or even a 3, i am thrilled. luckily though, i am in a school where testing is not the be all end all. i am not looked down upon when my kids score a 1 because, honestly, that is where they function and those that get the 2 or 3 its because of the mods.
my class is one "grade" level though, so i follow the grade level curriculum "topics" and modify it to meet their needs. (So say fifth graders are doing graphing, i will do that too, but on a lower level).
