Smelly dogs

We give Roxy, our boxer a bath about once a month but after about 3 days of bathing her she starts to smell again and we can't figure out why. On the days we give her a bath I also clean her bed. Anyone have any idea's why this is happening.

Are you using the same shampoo? It could be a reaction to her coat/skin to the chemicals in the shampoo you are using. also the bed- what is it made out of? and what type of detergent do you use? Is her bed near a baseboard or heat of any kind? Bring her to your vet and let them give her a bath/groom her, see if the scent comes back and tell them about the smell. Your doggie could have allergies.

Is it her ears? Maybe they have a build up of wax or are infected?

When your dog is out in the yard, does it roll up on its and rub it in the dirt at all? My dogs sometimes do that. They make a spray that you can get at Petco or Petsmart that freshens the coat between baths. You can try that.

I find that right after I give Kanga a bath she stinks (like wet dog even though I dry her). After a few days she actually smells cleaner, and her coat is softer. Maybe it has to do with the oils in your dogs skin, or maybe the time of year (weather)?

Also, if it is a older dog the smell might be infection in their teeth. My brother had this problem forever with his dog and then they realized the smell was from her rotting teeth. They got them pulled and no more smell.

could be the scent glands...they may need to be cleaned out.

I have the same problem with Rudy... My DH also says it is just his natural oils in his skin.. Nothing much you an do about it. I try those sprays between baths and that doesn't help either.

You also can't bath them more than once a month because that will ruin the oils in the skin and cause them to have dry skin (that is what the groomer told me).
We don't have a backyard so I know it isn't that Rudy is rolling in the dirt (it isn't a dirt smell more of a corn chip smell)

I guess I will have to live with a stinky dog!

I've heard that you are not supposed to bath dogs that often but...

My parents have a parson's russell who is always getting dirty.
We bathe her once a week with this shampoo that the vet gave us. If we don't- she gets dry flaky skin.

We have a Boxer and he isn't smelly at all. We hardly ever give him a bath, unless he gets really dirty. I usually just wipe him down with these pet wipes that I get from Target.

Is it Roxy's body that smells? Or her face? Because you know Boxers get those smelly eye boogers! And the smell is pretty strong.....

What is the smell?? Fishy?? If so then it is there Anal Glands. If not might be ear wax build up they can smell pretty bad!! My brother Bulldogs has that problem and it is really bad he needs his ears cleaned everyday! One day missed and u can't even stay in the same room!! Really Bad. Also try changing his soap to a natural soap. no smell to it. I get Mystic Naturals and u can order on line

I asked my boyfriend about this and he said it could be his anal glands. I guess dogs have a gland in their but that if they want to they can release a smell from it. I know that some dogs glands can get swollen or something as well and need to be popped. You might want to call the Vet and ask about it if it persists.

Our dog smells about 3 days after her bath, but has gotten better since we changed her food. We stopped giving her dry food that has corn meal in it and what a difference!! she is not as smelly. We are still trying to decrease it--less cookies, or, we are reading the ingrediants and looking for more items that have less chemicals etc...

take a peek at the food label and see if there is corn meal...that might be a possibility.
