Do you dress up for Halloween?
It is a HUGE deal at my school- even the principal does. The principal and her secretaries go overboard....each year they do something completely amazing, they make their own costumes.
So....my issue is....I love to dress up, but... every damn friggin' costume I see is SEXY! Helloooooo what about us poor teachers who have to dress appropriately?!?!
I tried on a Little Red Riding Hood costume yesterday- and let me tell you, it was LITTLE!
Any suggestions? I guess I should be more creative and make my own. I also like to be characters in musicals (like Annie or Dorothy) or just be basically anyone musical.
So...what are you dressing up as for Halloween?
ETA: We only dress up for the Halloween parade, after lunch, we're not THAT crazy!

Re: Do you dress up for Halloween?
Last year for our Halloween PTA event (I chaperoned) I was Peter Pan...my SIL made the costume and it was simple (she made the top part out of green fabric, brown leggings, brown loafers, little bag of pixie dust). If I cared to sew, I could probably do it in a weekend easily.

Re: Do you dress up for Halloween?
One year I donned scrubs and put a stethoscope around my neck and went as a doctor
All the kids thought I was a "nurse" b/c I was a woman so it led to a very nice teachable moment
Last year I only put some fake horns on my head- the kids love it.

Yes. A few other teachers and I make costumes after school. So we go with a theme.

No, my principal doesn't allow us to even though all of the other schools in the district do. We are not allowed to "celebrate" it at all....she's got problems. It sucks because it's my favorite holiday

I would LOVE to be Peter Pan- another musical character! I'm terrible at making my own costumes though....
I'm gonna do a search online...
TIA!
That doctor/nurse story was great, Jen - don't you love those teachable moments? Kids are funny!

Re: Do you dress up for Halloween?
ooooh I could be Tinkerbell! I remember being her for Halloween when I was in Pre-K!
Think I could get away with this, or is this too leggy?
I'd like to be Peter, but I can see the kids thinking I'm an elf instead. Last year I was (little Orphan) Annie and sooo many kids had no idea who I was!

Same here. I work for a large district and many of the Elem schools have a costume parade. My school is I think the only one that doesn't allow anyone to dress up.

Maybe you can just throw some leggings on under one of the costumes!

We can only wear them after lunch for the parade. All the kids run home and get dressed, and faculty gets ready at school.

Re: Do you dress up for Halloween?
My school does not allow it "for security reasons" we are not even supposed to give the kids candy..
BUT....DH says at his school, the reason they outlawed is that the teachers dressed too inappropriately.

nope. not allowed to. neither are the kids. and it's elementary school.
honestly i'm okay with it because i hate dressing up and half of the kids are way too uncomfortable and distracted in costumes anyway

Re: Do you dress up for Halloween?
No we are not allowed to. We aren't even allowed to do the costume parade. I think the first graders dress up as their favorite character and celebrate as a grade. My district is 70% jewish though, so my kids don't even trick-or-treat for obvious reasons. Dressing up in costumes is kind of out for them. I'm ok with it. It's just another day!

Same for our school. I agree that the kids are WAY more distracted in their costumes...but the way I see it, it's a waste of a school day anyway because you can't get them to concentrate worth a damn!
