GD Question
I was just diagnosed with the dreaded GD. I had my consult with the high risk doctor yesterday. All my numbers are good except for my fasting. I cannnot get them below 90. They put me on Glyburide before I go to bed. The part that concerned me was that they want me to come in every week for a non-stress test. Is this the norm? I thought it was a little extreme considering I am only 32 wks. They told me the baby is perfect, growing exactly where she should be.
Also, I already had my consult with the nutritionist, do I have to keep seeing her if my numbers are fine? I have been pretty much following her diet for the last two weeks and everything is fine.
I just did not like the office where my ob sent me to. I just got bad vibes from them. I went to Madonna in Brightwaters. I felt like cattle there. Moving you from one room to the other with no privacy at all.
I feel like this is going to be a very long 7 weeks.
TIA!!!!

Re: GD Question
i have GD again, had it with DD#1 as well. my problem number is also the morning which is quite common. i take insulin at night.
i had an initial consult with the endocrinologist who then told me to see the nutritionist. i email my numbers weekly and she calls to check in here and there. i actually have another appointment with her today, because it's standard practice for them, but since i've been through this before it's kind of useless...
when my SIL was diagnosed with GD her dr. mentioned taking a pill over insulin should it ever come to that and i was . i thought the whole point of taking insulin was that it controls your body and doesn't pass to the baby.
it is my understanding that oral drugs pass through the placenta which is why insulin has been the treatment of choice to date. my SIL's dr. said that insulin is the "old way" of doing things and taking medication is the "new way". she was able to control her GD with diet alone and never had to make a choice. my dr.'s placed me on insulin again, the talk of oral medication never came up and if it did i would have questioned it and most likely declined it based on my previous research and comfort level. all dr.'s are different, if you don't feel comfortable with the care, i'd speak up and/or find out from your OB if there is another practice they can recommend....

Re: GD Question
Thanks so much for the imput. I think I am going to speak up next time I go. If I do not like their answers, I will speak to my ob-gyn then.
From your past experiences did you have to have a non-stress test every week also?
TIA!!
