Just introducing myself to this board!
hi everyone...i figured that since i'm attempting to get healthy and drop some weight--i should check this board out for ideas and support! i'm tired of having to shop in the plus size section and have been working out about an hour a day at the gym for the pats week. i swear i don't know how some of you ladies do it! i've lost 5 lbs. so far--not a milestone...but its better than nothing.
here's a question---i don't eat fruit--i know i should--but since i was a kid i just can't eat fruit...the moment it touches my mouth i start to feel sick. so many diet plans call for you to eat fruit, and i just can't do it. also yogurt is a no go for me as well, also makes me nauseous.
so do you guys have any ideas of things i can eat as snacks and stuff instead of fruit and yogurt?
TIA!

Re: Just introducing myself to this board!
hey, maybe we can do this together ... i'm just starting to realize i need to get back in shape now that i'm feeling a bit better
the way you described fruit is the same way i feel about vegetables! the only ones i'll eat aren't good for you (iceberg lettuce, corn, potatoes, etc.)
and the idea of yogurt makes me want to barf.

Re: Just introducing myself to this board!
Do you like hummus? I regularly eat hummus and vegetables for lunch. If you don't like veggies you could dip whole wheat pita in it.
Sometimes I'll eat a handful of nuts for a snack too. If you like cottage cheese that is a good alternative to yogurt.
Even if you don't eat fruits or vegetables, just try to make sure you're eating low fat, low calorie meals and snacks. Also, try to cut out soda, it will make a big difference.
Keep up the good work!

Re: Just introducing myself to this board!
i'll try the hummus idea. i do like a bunch of veggies like brocolli, cauliflower, green beans, carrots, etc so thathelps even out my inabiilty to eat fruit.
i was only working out now and again, butthis time i'm really going at it fulll force. i remember barely being able to do 5 min. on the elliptical...lol but now i'm doing 30 min. so i'm loving that accomplishment!!!!

Hey! I just found you on sparkpeople yesterday and sparkmailed you
Try Atkins- you aren't even allowed to have fruit (or bread...or sweets)
Do you like fruit juice? Maybe you could invest in a juicer...?
Good luck!

Re: Just introducing myself to this board!
I would also recommend dried fruit. Raisins, cherries, apricots?

Re: Just introducing myself to this board!
Welcome
5 lbs IS a milestone!!!!
As far as the snacks go...I suggest you stock up on veggies. Carrotts and edamame make great snacks. Also, Luna or Soy Joy bars a good. I will have 1/2 of one as a snack then the other 1/2 at a later time in the day. Basically, you want your snacks to be filled with fiber. Because that's what keeps you full. I used to take fiber tablets with my snacks and it would really help hold me over. Plus, they're sweet and taste good

How about dried fruit, like apricots, cranberries and cherries? Better than nothing. Or smoothies??? Good luck

Re: Just introducing myself to this board!
I would stick with the veggies that you like then. Also, for snacks, I like the 100 cal packs being that they are already packaged and I know exactly what I am eating. I agree with the juicer idea if you like to dink fruit juice.
Good Luck!
And congrats on 5 pounds and your elliptical accomplishment

Re: Just introducing myself to this board!
Nuts, trail mix, granola bars, baby carrots - there is plenty of snacks out there
Just because you have an aversion to fruit now doesn't mean you won't like them later on. Your tastes may change and you can try slowly incorporating them into your diet later.
Congrats on your 5 lbs!! Keep up the great work!!!
