I finally did it !!!!
Hi everyone. I don't post too often on this site, but I just wanted to share that I made it through my very first week at college. I've been so unhappy with my career (the past 10 years) that when I was recently laid off AGAIN, I took this as my final sign and registered for school to pursue my dream career of being an elementary school teacher. I have not been in school in 11 years, so it's definitely a challenge. Right now I'm going full time and I'm going to try to keep going full time so that I can get my AA as soon as possible. My husband and I are thinking of starting a family soon, but I told him that I MUST at least start to get this school thing going. He's been very supportive. I know it's going to take me a long time as I am starting from scratch...zero credits ! I was hoping that I could stop start my family and then go back, but I don't know how well that will work out. Anyone ever done this? Start school then stop to start a family and then go back? I'm just so excited

good for you!! that's a huge move and an excellent decision.
I wasn't in your position, because I went right to college from high school, however my mom always talks about going back but never follows through.

I wasn't in your position, because I went right to college from high school, however my mom always talks about going back but never follows through.
I was like your mom....putting it off for years and years. I always wanted to go to school to become a teacher, but it just never happened. Then 10 years passed and I finally just did it. Encourage your mom. It really is never too late.

Good for you my mom was 2 classes away from finishing her associates and had a family and never went back. Well last night she was saying how she wishes she could go back and finish, but how her credits were not valid anymore. Well that minute went to the phone called the school and her credits are valid, so she is going back to school next semester.

Congrats!!!! I went back to school to change careers at the age of 28 and my mom did too she just graduated as an RN at the age of 57!!!! So you can do it!!!!

Congrats! One thing you should look into life life experience credits bc some schools offer this. my mom went to school later in life and got a ton of credits for doing this. you have to write a huge book but IMO, its worth it!
