Re: Oxycodone and Hydrocodone...
I think Oxycodone is a really strongTylenol and Hydrocodone is another name for vicodin (or a generic version or something).

Percocet is made up of a combination of oxycodone and acetaminophen.

Re: Oxycodone and Hydrocodone...
GENERIC NAME: oxycodone BRAND NAMES: OxyContin, Roxicodone, M-oxy, ETH-Oxydose, Oxyfast, OxyIR DRUG CLASS AND MECHANISM: Oxycodone is a strong narcotic pain-reliever and cough suppressant similar to morphine, codeine and hydrocodone. The precise mechanism of action is not known but may involve stimulation of opioid receptors in the brain. Oxycodone increases pain tolerance and decreases discomfort, but the presence of pain is still apparent. In addition to pain reduction, oxycodone also causes sedation and respiratory depression. The FDA approved oxycodone in 1976.

Re: Oxycodone and Hydrocodone...
I can't find a good description for Hydrocodone
they only have it mixed with acetaminophen-
Hydrocodone is in a group of drugs called narcotic pain relievers.
Acetaminophen is a less potent pain reliever that increases the effects of hydrocodone.
The combination of hydrocodone and acetaminophen is used to relieve moderate to severe pain.

Precisely. Oxycodone is percocet and hydrocodone is vicodin.
THESE TWO DRUGS ARE SIMILAR, BUT NOT the same. Hydrocodone is the generic name for Vicodin, Norco, Lortab and about 30 others. It is a narcotic analgesic, and not quite as strong as Oxycodone. It's also SLIGHTLY less regulated ie.. it can be CALLED IN to a pharmacy by a physician. It can be habit forming. Vicodin and the rest are a combo of hydrocodone and acetaminophen (Tylenol). Oxycodone is also a narcotic analgesic, also can be habit forming. It's also a combo of acetaminophen and oxycodone (generic) name for Percocet, Tylox, Roxilox. It is SLIGHTLY more regulated ie.. in CANNOT be called in to a pharmacy, you have to have a physical written prescription from a physician. Because of it's potential for abuse and dependence, doctors tend to order Vicodin rather than Percocet.

Re: Oxycodone and Hydrocodone...
Hydrocodone is a synthetic opiate pain killer that is derived from both codeine and thebaine. It is typically bound to acetominophen (tylenol) and is slightly newer by a few years. Oxycodone is another synthetic opiate derivative, but this time from thebaine alone and not from codeine. It is usually bound with ibuprofen (advil). Binding agents of both drugs can be aspirin, acetominophen or ibuprofen. Basically, the only difference is in the derivatives. Both are opiate analgesics, both are habit forming, and both are controlled substances.

Re: Oxycodone and Hydrocodone...
Both are Opioids.
Chemically speaking they are very similar.
Percocet is an Oxycodone and Vicodin is a Hydrocodone.
Oxycodone is made from thebaine and Hydrocodone is made from codeine and thebaine.
I dont know how to truly explain the difference...Oxycodone is considered to be more habit forming. But Hydrocodone can be too....
Dispensing usually depends upon the type and severity of pain....

Re: Oxycodone and Hydrocodone...
Ooxycodone has less if any*** tylenol so its safer for the liver. Hydrocodone is generic vicodin. Both are opiates and you have to wean off---if you stop cold turkey they results are nassssssssssty.

Re: Oxycodone and Hydrocodone...
The only other thing I can add to this (sad that I've had to learn this...) is that hydrocodone (Vicodin) is considered "safe" for pregnancy while Oxycodone (Oxycontin) is not.
