Avoid Heavy Lifting...

This is in ALL the pregnancy books and everyone will tell you do not lift anything heavy - what do you consider heavy?

What do you avoid lifting daily? Laundry??

Re: Avoid Heavy Lifting...

Not anymore, but when I could lift things, I would do the laundry, groceries, my dog, boxes under 10-15 lbs.

Bend with your knees, not at the waist, just remember your center of gravity is going to be off with the baby girth in front of you. Plus you don't want to strain your muscles in your back or legs since they are stressed enough with pg.

Re: Avoid Heavy Lifting...

I do not know how to listen to this. My boyfriend works nights and I get so bored. He came home to find all the furniture rerranged. he was so mad, but i had to do it. My back does hurt now. I think laundry is fine as long as it is not too heavy.

Re: Avoid Heavy Lifting...

I kind of use the idea of having another child (i.e. toddler) that I would be lifting and taking care of as my rule of thumb. If you were on your second baby, you would still be doing for your first, and I try to use that kind of weight to judge what I should or should not be lifting. I lift laundry baskets and stuff. I'm sure I am even lifting things that I shouldn't be, I just make sure I am using my arms and legs for strength rather than my back and stomach muscles. I know I probably shouldn't be doing this, but DH is out of work with a back injury, and stuff need to get done.

Re: Avoid Heavy Lifting...

I ask DH to carry the laundry down to the laundry room and he brings all the groceries in to the house from the car for me too (he's a good man Chat Icon ). I dont lift anything anymore. If I do, he tells me to stop.

Its not worth it to me, I have a bad back.

Dr. told me up to 40lbs and that's what the Post Office uses as a limit for their female preggo employees.

You shouldn't lift anything heavier than you were used to lifting when you weren't pregnant. I'm carring Sarah all day long, and she's gotta be near 25lbs. We'll find out at the end of the month at her next appointment.

Re: Avoid Heavy Lifting...

I don't carry laundry. DH puts it in a cart for me and I push it to the laundromat. Then I have him bring it up...

My folks won't let me carry anything, lol... They are like I got that, let me help. DH carries the laundry basket and groceries in for me. He or my folks go grocery shopping with me lately too which is a help.
