phone number you don't recognize...
do you call them back?
i just got a call on my cell phone. they hung up before it went to voice mail. the area code is from the mid-west. i don't know anyone in the midwest.

i usually enter the # on anywho.com or switchboard.com to see if it comes up with a hit. if it doesn't or i don't know the # still....i don't bother calling back. if its important, they'll leave a msg

I try to look up the number online or at least the area code. After that, though, if they didn't leave a message, I don't call back - unless I figure out who it is and know the person.
I figure if they did not leave a message, then perhaps they just dialed the wrong number and realized it when they got my voicemail.

I try to look it up on line and if that doesn't work, I call from my office phone to see who it is.  My office phone is caller id blocked so they won't know it's me (hopefully)

Normally I ignore it, but with my Grandmother being very ill right now I call back any number I miss in case it's one of her nurses.

I never call back if I dont recognize the number. I also dont pick up those phone calls. If they dont leave a message- oh well I guess it wasnt important.

I URGE EVERYONE TO PICK UP CALLS THEY DO NOT RECOGNIZE
I was almost hurt badly here a few years back and I lost my cell phone. I ran to a pay phone to call my husband--BF at the time and because he did not recognize the number her didn't pick up the phone.
Always pick up the phone, you never realize when it is an emergency.
PS---BC he is such a call screener, he is no longer my ICE

Nope. I think sometimes people dial the wrong number and realize it when the voicemail picks up so they hang up. If it's important they'll call back....

I just got a call on my cell from a 302 area code. No idea who that was. I googled it, it's someone in Delaware. Wrong number!

The one time I answered a call from an unknown area code, it turned out to be my local newspaper trying to sell me a subscription. I was so annoyed. After that, I decided if I don't recognize a number, even if it IS from an area code I know (i.e. 516, 718) I still don't answer it. If it's important, they'll leave a message.
