More than one cat?
If you have more than one cat, how well do they get along?
My cats love each other, but in the past I have had cats who hate each other.

Re: More than one cat?
I have 2 cats, but I adopted them together at 9 weeks old. They are super attached to each other and were a double adoption (shelter wouldn't separate them). I think they were littermates, but no one knows for sure.
I had two adult cats at one point in time that HATED each other. The best they ever got along was "agreeing" to stay in separate rooms and hissing at each other when they passed by. They were introduced when they were both adults (one several years younger than the other, though)... No matter what we tried, they just never got along. I've known other cats who were introduced as adults who eventually got along much better, though. I guess it just depends on the cats.
I think it's easier to introduce kittens to each other than it is adult cats. After that, I think it's easier when one of the cats is a kitten. Sometimes it just takes a LOT of time and patience.

Re: More than one cat?
It really depends on the cat--our cat is pretty laid back, and when my mom brought her cat to live with us, the two of them got along really well almost from the beginning.
On the other hand, we tried to adopt a stray cat that we found, and unfortunately she's a little territorial, so that's not working out so well.

Too cute! I had a male cat who was a surrogate father (or mother) and would let the kitty suck on his milkless nip. It was too funny!
Back to the OP, I had 3 cats and although, it wasn't love at first site, it also wasn't war of the roses.

Re: More than one cat?
They tolerate each other.
Figaro was 11 when we brought home Jeter. Jeter would run around and try to play with Figaro and Figaro would play sometimes. Most of the time they would roll around and fight.
After a while it got better and every once in a while I catch them laying near each other so I know they enjoy the company.

Re: More than one cat?
They have mellowed with age....but the younger one still beats up the older one.
But whats funny... the older one (now)used to beat up my older cat (that has since pass away.
I guess it the circle of life.

Re: More than one cat?
I have two cats and now a dog and they all get along... The cats and the dog are still getting used to eachother since we just got the dog last week.. the two cats "like" eachother, but sometimes they have their moments where they fight.

Re: More than one cat?
mine are brother and sister and are literally inseparable. They love eachother so so much.
My sisters' and mom all have two as well. Their's are not best friends like mine and took some time to get along. Now, they tolerate eachother, sometimes fight.

Re: More than one cat?
I used to have 2 cats - I got a kitten when my older cat was 11. There was a "getting to know you" period. I think they grew to tolerate each other, but never slept together or anything.
