TTC after D&C

Hi, I just ahd a D&C last Friday and before the procedure my Doctor told me to wait two cycles before TTC. Then today I went for my follow up visit and the same doctor said," so after you get your period in about 4 to 6 weeks you can try again." I even rephrased her answer to make sure I heard her correctly, and she still said yes. I want to TTC ASAP,does anyone have any answers on why I should wait longer than one cycle? Thanks

Re: TTC after D&C

Some people have to wait a couple of months because they dont get their period until then.
I've heard some people TTC right away and get PG and have successful pregnancies. Good luck to you!

sometimes the doctors say that b/c they want you to be emotionally ready too... and by waiting longer, it can help accurately date the next pregnancy. with me, it actually took me almost 3 months to get my period, and i had to take provera to bring it on. luckily, after that i got pregnant. good luckChat Icon

Re: TTC after D&C

I miscarried at 5 weeks, I didn't need a D&C, but got pregnant again the next month. I also miscarried that one and needed a D&C. My doc said that my body may not have been healed from the first pregnancy and that could've contributed to my next miscarriage. I think that's part of the reason why they usually tell you to wait.

My doc said as long as I get a normal period and it is at least 6 weeks after the D&C I can try again.

Re: TTC after D&C

the reason is that they want your lining to get back to nowmal after your d&C.
Im so sorry that you had that. I had to wait 2 cycles as well, before we could start again

Re: TTC after D&C

I miscarried (naturally though) at 6 weeks and when I went in for a follow up visit with my doctor, he told me to wait 2-3 months to TTC again. Welllllllll, unbeknownst to either him OR me, I was pregnant again when he told me that! I conceived exactly one week after my miscarriage. I was scared to death when I saw my doctor again because he had told me to wait - when we talked again he reassured me that it was ok, that the reason why he says to wait 2-3 months is to make sure the mom is emotionally ready, and also because of superstition. 15 years ago doctors believed that you couldn't have a healthy pregnancy if you conceived too quickly after an m/c but the truth is there is absolutely no statistical evidence of that. And now, I have a VERY healthy, chubby little girl to come home to every night Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: TTC after D&C

Like Diane said it is more about the lining of your uterus. Impantation is the single most important part of an early pregnancy and if your lining is rough and has not shed everything to make a smooth impantation spot the baby may not be able to implant. I M/C in Sept my Dr told me one normal cycle. This was how mine went.

Sept 11-BFP
Sept 14th-started bleeding
Sept26th-levels not going down, had to get methotrexate shot
Oct 18th stopped bleeding from M/C
Oct 21st Got AF
Tried that ovulation period but did not get PG. Have been trying since then am now in my two week wait for January. Good luck.
I hope this helps. I did not have a D&C.

I am very similiar to beth, I m/c'd naturally at 5.5 weeks, and conceived this one about 2-3 weeks after m/c without AF. I truly believe that the time is more for emotionally healing and for dr's to date the pg. My due date has changed a couple times.
Also I truly believe we do not soo much about the human body and the miracle of birth, i don't think our bodies will conceive it isn't ready too. I am 27.5 weeks pg, happy and fat and loving it!
