starting cereal...Help
DS's pedi. wanted me to wait until he was 6 months old before starting cereal, But I was at the dr's tonight because he has a cold and I asked a different dr what she thought and she said to go for it! So I know, I am supposed to start with a single grain rice cereal and mix it with formula. How often in a day? Then in a few wks...Do I start adding stage 1 veg's or fruit..?? sorry if this sounds stupid

Re: starting cereal...Help
When I started cereal I would give it to dd once everyday, in the morning. We did cereal for about a month or so before I start introducing veggies. I would wait until your ds really gets the hang of it before you start introducing anything else. HTH

Re: starting cereal...Help
I agree with PP. We started with Rice cereal but if DC has an BM issues than you might want to skip rice as it can constipate kids.
The box has instructions for their first feeding of cereal. We quickly moved up to a more solid form of hte cereal as the first feeding is like soup. DS loves texture!
We did a feeding in the AM, I think for 2 weeks we did rice, then moved to Oatmeal for 2 weeks. Then at 5 months we started fruits and veggies. We started with fruits because veggies can be gassy and DS already had enough gas without adding to it. Each new food should be given alone for 3-4 days to watch for a reaction, this is also why I never did a new food at dinner time. i want to see if there is a reaction. For instance DS spit up a TON whenever he had peaches, so it took a long time before he could handle peaches. We would just stop and then reintroduce them like a month later!
GL and take pics I love the pics of DSs first feedings he is so happy and amazed by what is happening, like we had been holdign on out him for months!

Re: starting cereal...Help
I started my son on cereal at 4 months. The doctor said to start with rice, then barley, and finally oatmeal. Rice made my son have a ton of gas. Barley, I don't remeber too much about, but i just stuck with the oatmeal and he loved that. Don't stress out about staying on each cereal for too long, if it is not agreeing with your baby. I think they just want you to make sure they have no allergic reactions to any of the cereals. As far as the fruits and veggies, I remember that once we spent enough time on each cereal we moved on to f & v. Again you just have to give each new thing a little time to make sure the baby has no allergies to any of what you introduce. If you do too many things at once, you won't know if the food doesn't agree with him or her. Thats what my doctor told me, anyway
