Questions about the glucose test....

First, how many viles of blood do they take? I'm a baby so I need some mental preparation.

And Lastly, what foods should I avoid that day.....they say you can eat up to an hour before but I'm sure there are some things you should stay away from.

if its the 1 hr GTT you should only have one vile drawn. i would avoid starchy carbs anything with sugar, sweet fruit, candy

Just had my glucose test done on Tues, this is my 3rd pregnancy. I had to fast for at least 8 hrs (but doctors offices give different guidelines), they draw a red top and a blue top befire your levels (it is like a pre-test and for your CBC), then they give you the drink, you have 5 min to drink it and an hr after you have 1 vile drawn.
Don't avoid any foods, if you have normal blood sugars it should not matter what you eat, your body should have the enzymes to break down the sugars regardless. PLUS... the drink that they give you has SOOOOOO much sugar in it anyway so they can see how your body deals with high levels of sugar. Good luck.

I had this done a few weeks ago. The nurse told me to eat as I normally would or it could throw the test off. I didn't have any blood drawn before the test.....just had to go an hour early, drink a small sugary drink and wait. I am a total chicken with blood tests so I can't tell you how many vials, maybe 2, b/c I don't look but I can tell you it was quick!

I already have the drink in my fridge...I have to drink it an hour before I get there and just note the time so they can draw it exactly an hour later.
