Re: Antibiotics in first trimester?
I was put on penicillin at 8 weeks by my midwife for a UTI.
Penicillin is a class A drug. Completely safe during PG.
I would recomend you take some pro-biotics/acidopholus to try and prevent a wicked yeast infection from the antibiotics!

Re: Antibiotics in first trimester?
Certain ones are OK--penicillin and erythromicin are fine. If you get it, they'll prescribe you a safe drug. In the meantime, keep washing your hands and stay away from the sickies!

Re: Antibiotics in first trimester?
I would ABSOLUTELY check with your ob rather than rely on the responses here.
If it makes you feel better, I was on anti-biotics at 6 weeks due to a sinus infection

Re: Antibiotics in first trimester?
If the OB or dr. prescribes them to you then they're fine, don't just take someone's random prescription. Certain ones are safe, some aren't, you're OB will obviously know which ones. I had 2 UTI's during my 1st trimester and was on antibiotics for both.

Re: Antibiotics in first trimester?
Well you are MUCH safer to take antibiotics in the first trimester for strep than to not take them. Strep can lead to much more serious things (like rheumatic fever etc) if left untreated. In fact in general if you need the antibiotics (not for viral they don't work) you have an infection of some kind and in general it is more important to treat the infection than to let it get worse.
There are antibiotics that are safe to take during pregnancy but I would check with your OB before you actually take anything.
