When to tell

When did you wait to tell everyone that you were pregnant? I'm only about 4 weeks. I don't even go see the doctor until January 7th. I want to scream from the rooftops since it's my first time but the few people I have told, said it is "bad luck" to tell people before 3 months. I feel like the whammy is on me if I tell people now! Anyone in the same boat?

Re: When to tell

I can't imagine waiting that long but I've been told to do the same. We are going to surprise my family on Xmas day with the news which, by then, would make me about 6-7 weeks.

Re: When to tell

We told our parents at 8 weeks and friends at 12-13 weeks. I told work at 22 weeks.

Re: When to tell

I couldnt wait.. I told my mom asap.. probably the day after I poas!!! I told some friends around 8 weeks, and I told work after 12 weeks.. I waited not because it was bad luck, but because I was afraid if anything happened, I would have to tell everyone about it, and thought that would be harder!!! Whatever you do, good luck and CONGRATS!!!

I will be 10 weeks when we tell my family this time around. It was probably closer to 12 weeks the other 2 times

Re: When to tell

honestly - it's a very personal decision...

for me - it was easier not to tell my parents..mostly because of my mom and her alcohol problem. when she's drinking - she can be VERY harsh....so i chose to protect myself until we were okay. we waited until week 11.

friends - like on here, knew immediately, as did a few close friends IRL...

you have to do what's best for you!!!

welcome to the boards and congrats!!

Re: When to tell

Its not necessarily "bad luck" to tell before 3 months. A lot of women choose to wait to 3 months because at that point, the 1st trimester is over, and the chances of miscarraige are greatly reduced.

Like Jess said, its a very personal decision. For us, we live OOS and dont visit NY very often. We wanted to tell our family and friends in person, so we'll be telling everyone at Christmas. I'll be 8.5 weeks at that point. Although its a little early, we'd rather tell everyone at that point, than wait until the next time we see them (which wont be until I'm about 5 months along).

Do what you feel is best for you and DH. Dont worry about it being "bad luck".

You have to do what you feel is right for you and DH. We waited to tell our families until after we saw the heartbeat for the first time which was around 8 weeks. We didn't tell our friends until after the first trimester but as I said it is totally up to you. Congrats!!!!Chat Icon

Re: When to tell

we told our familes at 7 weeks (right at the same time we heard the heartbeat).

We then told our close friends after tht.

I waited 12 weeks to tell work.

Re: When to tell

We told the family right away. Then I couldn't keep it a secret- I told work at 6 weeks.

Re: When to tell

We haven't told anyone yet either. I'm almost 5 weeks. For our first we told family at 8 weeks and friends at 12 weeks.

I have our first appointment when I'm six weeks the week before Christmas and will be 7 weeks on Christmas. So if all goes well I think we will tell then.
