How come?
NYS disability pays so little and for such a short amount of time, but DH's friend who is a waste of space, and not even LOOKING for another job is collecting unemployment and it's like 300 or 400 a week?! That's so unfair!!!

Shouldn't disability and unemployment amounts be the same?
In NJ you are allowed a max. of $560/week if you file for either... I just got my first check in the mail today! :D

Nope, it varies state to state. You got yours already? We can't apply in NYS until the baby is born from what I understand........

You would think so, but they're not. For disability, you get a % of your salary up to a MAX of $170 per week!!!  Give me a friggin' break!!! For those of us who have good jobs so we can afford nice homes, that doesn't even pay the taxes on the house for the month!!!
Thank God for private short term disability insurance.
