Hashimoto's....
I was just diagnosed today....
What can everyone tell me?
When am I going to start feeling better?

I have it. It takes a couple of weeks for the synthroid to build up into your system again. It's an autoimmune version of hypothyroid. Basically your body is killing your thyroid. I have never felt 100% since I was diagnosed but do feel better than I did at the time of diagnosis. Just be consistent in taking your meds. Honestly if I had to be given a lifelong illness I would rather this than most others, it's nothing too serious.
FM me if you have any specific questions-- my brain is not completely up yet.

I was actually mis-diagnosed for years and they thought I just had hypothyroidism.
Like the pp said it is an autoimmune disease. They actually tested me for hashimoto's because I have MS and my neurologist had the insite to realize that since I obvioulsy have autoimmune issues it was a good chance that my thryroid issues also were that also.
I feel fine for the most part. I have a serious problem losing weight which is annoying. Some of my other issues like fatigue could be from the hashimoto's or the MS.
Did you see the Endo I recommened? Hope you feel better soon!

The first available appointment for new patients was at the end of March!!!!! So I had to go to the next name on the list....Fortunitely for me they squezzed me in b/c they didnt have any appoinments until the end of January.
How did they know you had Hashimoto's? What test did they do? I keep reading about all of these blood tests and antibodies etc...the endo did a sonogram of my thyroid...or rather what is left of my thyroid. There is a nodule on there too but he wasnt overly concerned about it...

I'm not sure what test they ran to test for the hashimoto's, but it was a blood test.
I also get a sonogram every couple of years.
Sorry you couldn't get to see the dr. I made my appointment in august and saw her in november. It is a PITA with specialists sometimes especially if you are a new patient.

Apparently, from what Im finding out online, my thyroid has already atrophied so much that no further testing is necessary. The doctor can tell by looking at my thyroid that I have Hashimoto's...
I have so many questions to ask I think Im going to start writing them all down for my next appointment.

I just got diagnosed with hasimoto's in March. My RE found out when I was getting bloodwork done for infertility. I always suspected something was wrong with my thyroid because I am always tired, have trouble losing wait, always cold etc. I feel somewhat better since starting the meds, but not 100% they are still trying to find the right dose of meds though, every 6-8 weeks I have to go and get bloodwork and the change the dosage according to the numbers, right now I am within the high end of the "normal" range, but they want me as close to 0 or 1 as possible so they keep upping the dose. I actually have to go back next week for more bloodwork.
eta: when I went to the thyroid dr. after I was diagnosed they felt my thyroid and they said it was enlarged, whatever that means!!

Apparently, from what I keep reading, it gets inflamed or something. They call it a goiter...Ive never had that that I know of...but when they did a sono of my thyroid it wasnt well formed and it's suppose to go over the windpipe and mine didnt...I guess we all have different symptoms.

I dont think it matter's really...it was how I was diagnosed.
I had slightly abnormal TSH levels but all the signs of hypothyroid...I guess the Hashimoto's causes the thyroid to atrophy or it can...it did in my case.
I have so many unanswered questions. Im going to write them all down and ask my doctor at my next visit.

My DH has Hashimoto's. He basically just takes Syntroid every day (I think that's how you spell it) and goes to see his endo every 6 months. They check his blood and every once in a while they up his meds a little.
Other than that, he really doesn't have any other symptoms.

I have Hashimotos. Many people (especially women) have it their entire lives and never know unless they go to an endocrinologist or complain of symptoms to their regular doctors. Many people have no symptoms at all. Others feel cold, tired, etc. It's a lifelong disease with no cure. You can go on Synthroid to regulate your TSH levels and get them as close to 1 as possible, which should make you start to feel better in terms of your energy level, but the Hashimotos will continue to wreck havoc on your thyroid for your lifetim€e. Fortunately, the Synthroid will do everything that your thyroid needs to, so you don't have much to worry about. The diagnosis is made if you have thyroid antibody levels. The antibody levels fluctate throughout your life. The higher they are, the more they are working to attack your thyroid. If you have nodules or a goiter, be sure to get regular sonograms, as well as fine needle biopsies to ensure you don't have thyroid cancer.
