What's your gym routine?

I'm starting back up at the gym today (gave myself a rude awakening by stepping on the scale this morning).

I feel like I never go because when I do go, I don't know what to do.

I belong to Planet Fitness in Bayshore- so there are no classes. They do have a 30 minute circuit, but I don't feel like that's enough to make any difference.

Please share with me what you do at the gym.

If you are advanced- tell me what you did when you were just starting out.

Thanks!

I don't really know what your fitness level is, what your current gym routine is or how much you are looking to lose.

I am no expert but if I was you I would focus on cardio. 4-5 days of high intensity cardio for 45-60 minutes per day would be optimal.

You can do any of the machines as long as your heart rate is up. Once you get used to your routine I would switch things up by increasing speed, incline or intensity etc.

Here is a website that has some good tips (don't mind the juiced up people in the pictures)

Tips

Don't know if that helps any! Good luck!

I do classes only. It's the only thing that motivates me. I do cardio kickboxing, spinning, pilates, body pump, sculpting class and sometimes some others.

Where do you take Body Pump? I didn't know gyms on LI had it.

Re: What's your gym routine?

I do Pilates reformer classes 2-3x a week. I also do running / walking on the treadmill, the elliptical and spin classes. Once in a while I will do yoga.

ETA: I also do a lot of walking, I don't drive here.

I do 30-45 minutes of intense, out of breathe, jump off the treadmill cardio followed by 30-45 minutes of circuit strength training.

The 30 minute circuits actually work pretty well if you're just starting out. You just need to make sure the weights are heavy enough. Lifting weights increases your metabolism and keeps it higher the entire day after exercise, but only if you really lift weights to "feel the burn". The circuit will also give you an easy plan to follow. You'll go in knowing what you're going to do and that makes it a lot easier. After you get into a routine of just getting to the gym, you can go off and do your own thing - maybe schedule a few sessions with a trainer if possible. Good luck!

I would say start easy . . . 30-45 minutes of cardio at minimum for 3-5 days a week. I am a huge advocate of the treadmill, I really feel as though it works your body better than any other machine. I am not sure what your fitness level is, but intervals are always a good way to burn fat. 5 minute warm up, 5 minute jog, 5 min walk...etc.

Oh man, alright, thanks for answering. I'm certified to teach it, but no gyms out here have it. Or they did have it, but it didn't catch on.

Re: What's your gym routine?

I go pretty much everyday.... do the treadmill, spinning, aerobics, and step classes... 3 times a week I add a core fusion class, which is a method mixture of pilates, yoga, and ballet- essentially "lotte berk pilates". I am in love with it!Chat Icon
