Is anyone a Court Reporter or know anyone who is?
Due to my recent lay off, I decided to pursue the career I had been interested in since I was 18. I'm kicking myself now for not doing it back then, but I am starting to believe this all happened for a reason. Had I not been laid off, I wouldn't be able to attend school full time, and change careers.
Is there anyone on here who is a Court Reporter or know anyone who is that can share any type of info with me?
I'm due to start April 1st.

I started the class but then got accepted to the Masters program I wanted so I never finished. I hear its a very good job usually people work with agencies and they place you at different locations. I use to have the tapes from the class and the machine if I can find them maybe you can get some head start practicing. that's the one thing its alot of practice.

A good friend of mine has been doing this for about 2 years now. He likes it, but it's not steady work and has had to get a part time job elsewhere to make extra money. The money is decent if you get steady work but there are some days his agency only sends him on jobs 2 or 3 days a week, and if the jobs are very short then he does not make much on those days. The key is to stick with it long enough to get into an actual court and then you are set. I think you need 5 years experience freelancing before you can apply to work in a court.

I started going to school for court reporting but stopped when I got pregnant. I would love to go back and hopefully will soon. I really enjoyed it and once you get the hang of it it is a lot of fun, IMO. if you have any specific questions let me know. GL!
